Multiple games, including those rescheduled due to the weather, have been at the top of my list. The first match included a 1A-7 battle between the host Ouachita Warriors against the Blevins Hornets. Ouachita gained the regular season sweep by winning 47-23. Top performers were;
Emma Williams. Ouachita. As a junior, Emma is the leader on the floor. Her court awareness creates high percentage shots for her teammates. At 5’10”, she is a mismatch for opponents at the point guard position. Her size and strength gives her the ability to post up in the paint if necessary.
Ta’keyla Williamson Ta’keyla Williamson 5'4" | SG Blevins | 2023 AR . Blevins. Just a sophomore, Ta’keyla has speed and quickness to burn. This is a player to watch. Her ceiling is incredibly high. At 5’6”, this swing guard has room to grow both mentally and physically to be one of the top high school talents in the state of Arkansas. No matter what school classification. Keep your eye on this girl!
In another matchup, 3A-7 Centerpoint hosted Genoa Central. Centerpoint had a comfortable 3 game lead in the district standings and held on to that lead with a convincing 65-36 win. Frontcourt dominance was on display for the Knights. Top performers were;
Monika Flores Monika Flores SG State AR . Centerpoint. This 5’6” senior swing guard is quick and has an excellent basketball IQ. The Knights like to run and it matches her game perfectly. Monika moves well without the ball to get open for high percentage shots. An excellent 3 point shooter, she is a very unselfish player, and has great anticipation on defense.
Marlee Bright Marlee Bright 5'6" | PG CenterPoint | 2022 State AR . Centerpoint. Marlee is a strong and quick point guard. She leads her team in assists because of her extraordinary peripheral vision on the court. This 5’6” senior is as fast as anyone on the court. Her possession to turnover ratio is excellent due to her number of touches in each game. Marlee’s strength and speed ranks her high on the list of best point guards in the state.
Lydia Whitehead. Genoa Central. Lydia is a swing guard that produces energy on the court. She has speed and quickness to penetrate and dish on offense and create turnovers by attacking the passing lanes on defense. As a junior, Lydia will be a key player on a junior laden team that I predict will be one of the top teams in 3A-7 next season.
Gracie Fowler. Genoa Central. Also a junior, Gracie is a post that can play facing the basket. With her strength and size, at 5’10”, she can create a mismatch at the 5 position. She has very good court vision and shares the basketball with her teammates. Gracie will be another piece to the success this Dragons squad will have next year.
As we progress to the playoffs, I’ll be traveling to several central Arkansas high schools. Look to read about your team in the coming weeks
