Fountain Lake survived with a 54-21 victory. The Lady Wildcats will now play the role of spoiler for the rest of the season. Fountain Lake still has playoff possibilities. The game was close through the first quarter, but Fountain Lake pulled away in the second with some torrid outside 3 point shooting. Below are some of the highlighted performances in the game;
Kara Martin. Fountain Lake. Kara handles the ball in every offensive possession. She usually leads the fast break to penetrate and dish off to her teammates for the open shot. If the defense sags, she’ll take it to the basket. This 5’7” junior swing guard has an excellent mid range jumper and can also shoot the three. A great passer that can protect the rock.
Mary Drake. Fountain Lake. Mary can play both wing positions. She appears very comfortable on the court. A 5’7” sophomore, she works very hard without the ball. Can set effective screens down low. Her crisp cuts enable her to get open for shots. She can also shoot the three.
Kamryn Whitley. Fountain Lake. As a point guard, Kamryn can go right or left with or without the ball. An excellent three-point shooter, she can get through screens for an open shot. Just a sophomore, she has the maturity of an upperclassman.
Lainey Mungle. Fountain Lake. Lainey is another one of those sophomores. This 5’6” wing is a very good team player that blends in seamlessly in the Cobras motion offense. Also capable of hitting the three, she is sound defensively and can get out quickly on the fast break.
Aniya Trotter. Hope. Aniya plays both point and swing guard positions. As the team leader, she has the size to face the basket as a guard, and post up when the opportunity arises. She is very athletic. Her length allows her to attack the passing lanes and leads her team in steals.
Both schools will be in action later in the week. Hope can play spoiler. Fountain Lake will be playing a make-up game for the chance to extend their season and a playoff appearance.
As the season ends there will be many teams trying to extend their season. I’ll be attending some of these central Arkansas games to round out the post-season qualifiers.
