Our latest ranking update was actually the final update for the class of 2022, so here’s a look at the top point guards in the Senior class.
[player_tooltip player_id="106138" first="Cassidy" last="Rowe"] | Shelby Valley
A top 5 player overall, Rowe is a walking example of hard work, determination, and grit. She came back from not only 1, but 2 ACL surgeries and you would never guess it when you watch her play. She utilizes every skill so well and it is so evident that she put in a lot of time and work to master the skills she has. Dribbling, shooting, passing, defensive abilities - all extremely impressive, but when you consider what she has been through and the work she had to put in to remain a high-level player, it’s absolutely amazing.
[player_tooltip player_id="106134" first="Jaya" last="McClure"] | Christian Academy of Louisville
Another top 5 player overall, McClure can do it all. She is so crafty with the ball and can get to the basket or create shots for herself with such ease. She’s got really good form on her shot and has deep range. She’s a true floor general. Defensively, there aren’t many, if any, players I would take over her when it comes to on-ball defense.
[player_tooltip player_id="106154" first="Camryn" last="LaGrange"] | Madisonville-North Hopkins
A WKU soccer commit, LaGrange is a high level basketball player as well. She’s strong and changes speeds really well. She can score when her team needs her to, but she distributes the ball really well as well. LaGrange is not only the Lady Maroon’s leading scorer, but she is also their leading rebounder which is a really impressive stat for a point guard.
[player_tooltip player_id="329463" first="Lele" last="Nguyen"] | Ryle
Nguyen has really strong handles and makes some great passes to get her teammates involved. She can stretch and shoot the 3, drive and score a layup, or drive and kick to a teammate and all any of those moves take for her is a strong crossover away from her defender. She also has good hands and reads passing lanes really well on the defensive end.
[player_tooltip player_id="157974" first="Callie" last="Wiegandt"] | Holy Cross (Louisville)
Wiegandt has great strength and control for a point guard. She zig zags her way through a defense and finishes so strong around the glass, but she is always looking to create shots for her teammates in a true point guard fashion. I was extremely impressed by how much Wiegandt moves without the ball - most players want to stand around, but she never stops moving and it really helps create scoring opportunities not only for herself, but for her entire team.
[player_tooltip player_id="106165" first="Maddie" last="Kauffman"] | Tates Creek
Kauffman is one of the highest percentage outside shooters on this list and when you have as strong of a crossover as she does, it doesn't take her much to get past her defender and score inside as well. She also is a very consistent free throw shooting, currently shooting 91.4% on the season. Defensively, she puts a lot of pressure on the offense and stays ready in the passing lanes.
[player_tooltip player_id="157971" first="Bayleigh" last="Ennis"] | Spencer County
Ennis can get her shot off quickly and is a really pure shooter. She can hit from deep range and utilizes shot fakes well to get to the basket. She isn't afraid of contact which helps her get to the free throw line consistently. Ennis has good length and moves her feet really well defensively, making it hard for an offensive player to get any easy drives to the basket.
[player_tooltip player_id="157973" first="Raven" last="Ennis"] | Barren County
A solid player all-around, Ennis has played a huge role in Barren County's success this season. She makes some really good moves to and around the basket, but she also can knock them down from deep. She crashes the boards strong and makes you work to get rebounds.
