Heading into the 2nd Round of the playoffs there were 10 teams on the First Coast who saw played and had a chance to help advance their schools into the 3rd round of the high school playoffs. The teams have been impressive, and the senior leadership has been evident. In this article, we look at the Seniors who have been impactful in getting their teams this far into the playoffs. [player_tooltip player_id="219949" first="Emily" last="McIntosh"] 2022 (St Augustine) has had a great year and has led the team to just one defeat the entire year. The loss was costly from a travel standpoint but might have been the wake-up call to propel them to their goal of returning to Lakeland. McIntosh is averaging 7.2 assists per game and 12.1 points per game. She scores in all levels and can get to the rim with the best of them. Lariel Green 2022, 5’8" G (University Christian). Green has played well in the playoffs. Green has shot the ball well from all levels of the court, she has played well on the defensive end, and has done whatever is needed on the courts. Green does a lot of the little things on the court, and she always does it with great effort. She has had a 14-point performance in the regional playoffs and will play a huge role if her team is to advance to Lakeland. [player_tooltip player_id="91575" first="Maddie" last="Millar"] 2022, 5’9" G (Bishop Kenny). Millar has been here before, and the Senior has some unfinished business. She is the heart and soul of this talented Bishop Kenny Team. Millar enters round 3 of the playoffs averaging 17 points per game and has been "money" from behind the 3-point line. For the season, Millar she has knocked down 118 threes, including 6 in the most recent playoff game. Millar also had 25 points in the last playoff game. In addition to the clutch shooting, Millar also does a good job of handling the ball and making sure the offense runs smoothly. [player_tooltip player_id="248651" first="Samantha" last="Hardison"] 2022, G (Orange Park) has provided good defense over the last few weeks. Hardison has taken on the toughest defensive assignments. Through the season, Hardison scores 7.1 points per game and 3.8 steals per game. Hardison also has the ability to break down defenses and penetrate zones and beat man to man pressure. Payton Petrick 2022, 6’2" C (St Augustine) does a lot of the small things for the Yellow Jackets. Through 19 games Petrick has averaged 5 points per game and 8.6 rebounds. Her length is what makes that front court of St. Augustine so imposing and their defense so tough to score against. Allison Fifield 2022, 5’11" (Nease) has been that utility player all year long for Nease and she continues to play her role well. In Round 2 of the playoffs, Fifield scored 7 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Fifield can score on all levels of the court. The senior does whatever is needed of her. She can handle the ball, pass the ball and can score when needed. Monique Cepeda 2022, 5’10" F (University Christian) has played well in the District championship and her stellar play has continued in the first two rounds of the playoffs. In round 2 of the Regional playoffs, Cepeda finished with 17 points. Cepeda is the utility player for University Christian and does a little of everything on the basketball court. She rebounds well, scores at all levels of the court, and handles the ball in press break and in the offense. [player_tooltip player_id="91588" first="Janiyah" last="Jackson"] 2022, 6’2" C (St Augustine) has been posting a double-double all season long and she is poised to lead her team back to Lakeland for some unfinished business. Through 22 games, Jackson averaged 13.8 points per game and 14 rebounds per game. Jackson does a good job of running the court and also defending the paint. [player_tooltip player_id="91582" first="Nia" last="Brown"] 2022, 6’2’ F (Orange Park) has been balled out in the playoffs. In round 1 of the playoffs, Brown scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, and then in , Brown had 14 points, 7 assists and 10 rebounds. The senior posted a double- double against Rickards in Round two. Brown can score on all levels of the court. Brown averages 13 points per game and 9.7 rebounds. Her ability to put the ball on the floor and break down defenses has been a huge part of Orange Park’s success. [player_tooltip player_id="243958" first="Sydney" last="Gomes"] 2022, 5'7" G (Nease). Gomes has been amazing all year, and when faced with elimination in the playoffs, the Senior has come through in the clutch. In round 1 and round 2, Gomes has knocked down 25 points and 27 points respectively. Gomes ability to score and get to the line is special. Gomes also handles the ball and does the extra things on the court.
