<strong>Florida’s Statistical Leaders: Assists</strong> By Michael Wholey 2/5/21 9:00 AM EST <em>Maxpreps tracks the state’s statistical leaders based on what is inputted into the system by a coach or program director.  With the regular season wrapping up and District and Regional playoffs starting up, we take a look at the statistical leaders in assists per game in Florida.  </em> &nbsp; <strong>Lexy Griffin </strong>(Arnold) – Class of 2022 – Guard <strong>Average</strong> <strong>Per Game</strong>: 8.7 <strong>Total Assists</strong>: 157 <strong>Games Played</strong>: 18 Griffin has one of the state’s top stat lines, showcasing her well rounded offensive skill set as she is averaging 12.1 points, 9.1 steals, and 8.7 assists per game.  Her 157 assists in 18 games are # 1 in the state for total number of assists and assists per game.  She has had double digit assists in half of Arnold HS games and is really turning it on in the second half of the season.  Since December 10<sup>th</sup> she is averaging 10.2 assists in 12 games.  Between December 18 – January 10, she recorded three consecutive triple doubles.  On December 18 vs Munroe she had 15 points, 10 assists, and 12 steals.  Then on January 4 vs Walton Griffin had 11 points, 10 assists, and 11 steals and then six days later on January 10 vs Bay had 19 points, 13 assists, and 11 steals! <strong> </strong> <strong>Justice Sheppard </strong>(Somerset Academy) – Class of 2025 – Guard <strong>Average</strong> <strong>Per Game</strong>: 7.8 <strong>Total Assists</strong>: 132 <strong>Games Played</strong>: 17 Sheppard has recorded double digit assists in 7 of Somerset Academy’s 17 games, averaging 7.8 assists per game.  She has twice recorded 15 assists this season, dropping 15 dimes vs Varela on December 6 and then doing it again vs Lasalle on January 12. <strong> </strong> <strong>Bri Becker (Trenton) – Class of 2022 – Wing </strong> <strong>Average</strong> <strong>Per Game</strong>: 7.5 <strong>Total Assists</strong>: 149 <strong>Games Played</strong>: 20 Quite simply Becker does it all for Trenton, helping them to a 13-7 record.  The 5’8 Senior is averaging 11.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 5.3 steals per game.  Her 7.5 steals are good enough for # 3 in Florida, snatching double digit steals twice the season, both times vs Chiefland on November 18 and then again on January 6. She has five triple doubles on the season and has narrowly missed a quadruple double two times, missing it by one rebound on January 6 and one steal on November 19. <strong> </strong> <strong><img class=" wp-image-336370 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2021/10/20210708_092118-300x169.jpg" alt="" width="158" height="281" />[player_tooltip player_id="219949" first="Emily" last="McIntosh"] (St. Augustine) – Class of 2022 – Guard </strong> <strong>Average</strong> <strong>Per Game</strong>: 7.1 <strong>Total Assists</strong>: 128 <strong>Games Played</strong>: 18 McIntosh is one of Florida’s most skilled offensive players and has been putting up excellent numbers for St. Augustine all season.  She is averaging 12.4 points and 7.1 rebounds to go along with her 7.1 assists per game.  McIntosh play is a huge part of St. Augustine success as the team is a perfect 18-0 on the season!  The ultimate playmaker, McIntosh is a selfless player, with a high basketball IQ and excellent court vision who consistently sets her teammates up for easy baskets. <strong> </strong> <strong>Mileyka Rodriquez Mercado (West Port) – Class of 2023 – Guard </strong> <strong>Average</strong> <strong>Per Game</strong>: 7.1 <strong>Total Assists</strong>: 113 <strong>Games Played</strong>: 18 Rodriguez Mercado is averaging 7.1 assists per game and has hit the double-digit assist mark three times this season.  Two of her top performances this season were a 10 point and 10 assist game vs Gainesville and a quadruple double 10 point, 10 assist, 10 steal, and 10 rebound game vs Forest on November 18. <strong> </strong> <strong>Bekky Valenzuela (Coral Shores) – Class of 2022 – Wings </strong> <strong>Average</strong> <strong>Per Game</strong>: 6.9 <strong>Total Assists</strong>: 90 <strong>Games Played</strong>: 13 Valenzuela is a 5’9 Senior Guard, who is averaging 6.9 assists per game in addition to 20.2 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 5.4 steals per game.  She has hit the double-digit assist mark four times this season including a season high 14 assists to go along with 14 rebounds and 24 points vs Varela last week on January 24.  The triple double was her fifth of the season! <strong> </strong> <strong>Jordan Kosoy (North Broward Prep) – Class of 2024 – Guard </strong> <strong>Average</strong> <strong>Per Game</strong>: 6.7 <strong>Total Assists</strong>: 121 <strong>Games Played</strong>: 18 Kosoy has been serving as North Broward Prep point guard and main ball handler all season.  The Sophomore guard is averaging 6.7 assists per game and dropped a season high 12 assists last week vs Franklin Academy.  She has a well-rounded offensive skill set and is averaging 13.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.9 steals per game in addition to her 6.7 assists. <strong> </strong> <strong>Michael Wholey</strong> is the lead scout for Florida Prep Girls Hoop Florida and a former division one Assistant Coach at American University, University of Memphis, and Georgia Tech.  Wholey and the rest of the Prep Girls Hoop staff, seek to cover the entire state of player, keeping subscribers up to date with player evaluations, recruiting info, and statewide news.  Our audience often supplies us with some of our best information.  If you have any information on players, teams, or statewide news in the state of Florida, emailing Michael Wholey at <a href="mailto:WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com">WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com</a> or DM him through Twitter or Instagram @WholeyPrepHoops.
