I want to highlight the kids who have shown the ability to carry an extreme workload for their teams and still be effective when they’re on the floor because volume scoring is still a talent.
Trishena Brown Trishena Brown 5'9" | CG West Allis Central | 2023 State WI -5’7 G-’23-West Allis Central
The amount of times Brown finds the ball is impressive. The junior scores over 20 points per game, pulls down nine rebounds and records five assists per game. I’m amazed that she averages only one-tenth more turnovers than she does assists. The next thing I want to talk about is her rebounding. That is a trend that I see in players with Brown’s usage. Brown’s rebounding shows her level of engagement and her competitiveness. With less responsibility, she’d be an efficient scorer. I’m sure of that. Instead, we watch one of the most gifted high-usage players in the state.
Hattie Fox Hattie Fox 5'9" | CG Osceola | 2023 State WI -5’10 G-’23-Osceola
The impressive part of Fox’s game is how effective she is with her high workload. Only one other Osceola player barely averages double figures, meaning Fox is the first name on every scouting report. While having that kind of attention, she’s shooting 44/35/76. That’s impressive. Last month Fox became just the third player in Osceola history to reach the 1,000 point mark, and she did it halfway through her junior season. In the short clips I’ve seen of her, she shows incredible scoring instincts, which checks out. However, a taller point guard who can also guard up will always intrigue coaches at the next level.
Heavyn Kind Heavyn Kind 5'8" | CG Spencer | 2022 State WI -5’7 G-’22-Spencer
This season is the most the Spencer guard has had to score to help her team. Without information on how she performed over the last two seasons, it’s impossible to see the whole picture of her statistically until this season. What I did notice is how often Kind finds the ball. With over four steals and over nine rebounds, she creates possessions for a team that can use them to beat other Cloverbelt teams. Those extra possessions are crucial in individual games, especially postseason games.
Isabella Millan Isabella Millan 5'8" | CG Florence | 2024 WI -5’8 G-’24-Florence
Millan is the best example of a volume scorer in Wisconsin. The Florence native is also one of the weirdest players statistically. Pairing her ability to score in bunches, Milan also boasts a positive assist to turnover ratio. It’s noteworthy that a young player, with the ball as much as the sophomore does, doesn’t turn the ball over. Over the next two seasons, her shooting efficiency needs to get better. With the improvement she’s shown this season, I believe in Millan going forward.
