Class 2A is an exciting class, with many up and coming young players looking to lead their teams to that sought after trophy. Many un-ranked players looking to show their skills. Dike-New Hartford 18-2, Mediapolis 19-2, and Panorama at 20-1 lead the class.
Panorama to me has a best chance of coming out on top this year. At 18-2 on the season. Panorama have one of the top defenses in the state when it comes to points allowed at 26, and have one of the top scoring offenses in all classes. Lead by seniors Payton Beckman Payton Beckman 5'4" | PG Panorama | 2022 State IA , and Laci Rishel. The panthers also have a strong sophomore in Jaidyn Sellers. Beckman is a 1,500 point scorer. She sits second in all-time scoring behind her sister Bailey Beckman 2019.
Dike-New Hartford is the next team I feel can compete for a title this year. The wolverines have a really tough sophomore class and have an amazing program. In 9 years coach Bruce Dall has the girls consistently on top of the Iowa Western conference. 5 years in a row now. Sophomore Payton Petersen Payton Petersen 5'10" | C Dike-New Hartford | 2024 State IA is a huge problem on the court. She will do some damage the next few years as well. Ellary Knock Ellary Knock 6'0" | SF Dike-New Hartford | 2023 State IA Junior is also very tough on the court. Together the two look to bring a championship back to the Wolverines. They are looking for back to back championships this year.
My sleeper team in 2A is the Mediapolis Bulldogs At 19-2. The Bulldogs have two high level players in the class. Senior Hallie Mohr Hallie Mohr 5'10" | C Mediapolis | 2022 State IA a Dmacc commit. Mohr is a dominate power forward. With over 400 points on the season and over 200 rebounds if Mohr can stay dominate and not get shut down Mediapolis can go far. Junior guard Payton Bush is a baller all around who dropped over 100 dimes this season. The duo looks to lead a strong supporting cast in sophomore Haley Steffener and Junior Liz Lane. Head Coach Todd Borrison has a good group of girls that play hard and have a great chance to go deep.
