Continue ReadingThe snow has been fierce the last couple of days here in the Midwest. The schools cancelling class, practices, and games has been long to say the least. But for many dedicated teams and players, a no school for a snow definitely didn’t equal a day off from becoming better basketball players and teams. Here are some teams and players that were in action through the snow.
Makenna Pobocik (2023, PF, Flint Powers) spent her snow day becoming a better basketball player. She’s been a consistent scorer and has shown some takeover ability. Pobocik should be on some radars with her performance this season.
Westfield Prep’s Coach Doc Cornell lives in the gym and his players follow suit. Of course he had girls getting better. That’s how he has star players like Shamya Reid Shamya Reid 5'5" | PG Westfield Prep | 2023 State MI and Asia Cochran Asia Cochran 5'8" | SG Westfield Prep | 2022 State MI . Westfield Prep and the Hype Lady Hoopers players all know how to pressure the ball and defend and attack the D on offense.
Sophie Canen Sophie Canen 5'9" | SG Saline | 2022 State MI (2022, SG, Saline) was in the gym during a snow day fine tuning her game. I recently wrote an article commenting on her love for the game, so of course she spent her “day off” playing basketball. This certainly explains her drastic improvement over the last year or so. She’s a solid shooter and scorer for the Hornets.
Kendall Carruthers Kendall Carruthers 5'7" | PG Springfield | 2023 State OH (2023, PG, Springfield) was busy getting better during the snow. She has some nasty handles and is so slippery with the ball. Carruthers can find even the smallest of lanes to the rim and creates for herself and her teammates.
Alexcis Parker Alexcis Parker 5'9" | PG Flint Powers | 2023 State MI (2023, Flint Powers) was snowed in, but was ready to shovel her way out and hit the court. She’s shown some explosiveness in her scoring ability and is a player to watch.
The Hamtramck team was in the gym over the snow day as well. They’re having an excellent season and their dedication to improvement is a huge reason why. Stars like forward Rakiyah Beal and guard Aniysia Lewis Aniysia Lewis 5'9" | SG Hamtramck | 2022 State MI have set the tone. Beal is an athlete wing that can thrive in the open floor while Lewis is a rising perimeter prospect.
