The guard and post play in the region has been at an all-time high. Here is a list of players that stood out in the Region Tournament.
Paris Smith I 6’0 I SF I 2022 I Glynn Academy
Smith really came on strong at the end of the regular season. Scoring 2 consecutive games with 25 plus points. She is a small forward that has the ability to play all 5 positions on the floor. Her Lady Terrors team relied on her during the region tournament to handle some of the ball-handling duties. Smith showed her ability to pull the bigger defenders out to the wing and use her speed to get to the basket. A player that has the ability to score at all 3 levels. Smith really turned it on during the Region tournament. Posting 3 consecutive double-doubles.
Alindria Dudley I 5’5 I PG I 2023 I Glynn Academy
Dudley is the engine that gets everyone going. She can be seen flying all over the court creating defensive havoc. A player that showed during the region tournament that she can score and well as defend. Has a nice elevation at the rim that helps her score over taller defenders. Knows how to create her own shot. Dudley posted 14pts in the quarterfinal game against Richmond Hill. She also recorded numerous steals and scoring opportunities in the semi-finals as well. A player that can take over a game at any given moment.
Laney Dobbs I 5’5 I SG I 2023 I South Effingham
Dobbs is one of the purest shooters in the region. She does not need much space to get her shot off. Always working hard away from the ball to get open. She creates nightmare matchups for her opponents as they tend to chase her all night off the line. Has the ability to shoot the mid-range jump shot and attacks the basket hard. Great court vision.
Brionna Sutton I 5’6 I PG I 2023 I Richmond Hill
Sutton showed how important it is to have a guard that can score at will through transition. A lefty guard that knows how to use her body to score in transition and finish at the rim. If you take away the drive, she always has her feet ready to knock down the 3 ball. Also loves to pressure the ball full court. Great defender that creates turnovers that lead to easy transition baskets.
Elena Hairston I 5’6 I PG I 2024 I South Effingham
Hairston is a special player that has the ability to create opportunities for her team. She showed her ability to handle the ball through pressure. Always playing with a full head of steam. A true point guard that scores at all 3 levels. Sees the floor well and always looking to be in attack mode. A young player that will make noise in the region next season.
Jada Brown I 5’10 I SF I 2025 I Richmond Hill
Brown improved as the season went along. This player never seems to get tired as she has the ability to run rim to rim. Brown showed her growth with her ability to make post moves on the block. Always has a nose for basketball as she led her team in rebounding. Most people refer to her as the quiet storm because she does all the little things that make a big difference. Brown did just about everything in her quarterfinal game against Glynn Academy. A player that will definitely be on the preseason watch list next season.
Mikayah Matthews I 5’6 I PG I 2024 I Richmond Hill
Matthews showed why she was one of the best players on the court during the region tournament. Against Glynn Academy, she was able to get out in the passing lanes to create easy transition baskets. A player that uses her quickness to her advantage. Has a nice pull-up jump shot and sees the floor well. Matthews is a guard that will continue to get better going into next season.
