Continue ReadingSalisbury is a team that should certainly be on everyone’s radar. This team moves the ball well and shows a high IQ when competing. Their tenacious defense and press can slow down any offense. Last year, they lost to the eventual state champs in the playoffs, so I am looking for them to take another stab at the crown this year. Here are some standouts I saw last night against Lexington.
Kyla Bryant Kyla Bryant 5'8" | CG Salisbury | 2023 State NC (G, 2023) shows off her IQ with her nice passes. She had a beautiful tear drop pass to her teammate cutting to the basket dropping it perfectly in the zone defense where they couldn’t reach it. She does well driving to the basket herself and pulling up for her jump shot or seeing the defense collapse on her to make the dish to her open teammate. She crashes the boards, too, looking for rebounds. She even showed off some power dribble moves underneath the basket.
Rachel McCullough Rachel McCullough 5'7" | SG Salisbury | 2022 NC (pictured above, G, 2022) made sure to have a top notch senior night. She sees the openings and gaps on defense with ease. She can shoot her shot from deep, or she can drive hard to the basket. She does well finding her open teammates inside sealing off their opponents. She had a nice steal leading to a fast break and an old fashioned three point opportunity on the other end. She can sidestep to get away from her defender to put the three pointer through the hoop.
Jamecia Huntley (SF, 2023) was doing a little bit of everything for her team driving hard to the basket, getting inside for rebounds, making nice cuts for her own points, and finding her teammates cutting to the basket. She can get up and over her defenders to make the shot or the perfect pass to her teammates. She did well anticipating passes on her team’s press slowing down the opponents’ offense. She immediately looks up the court for a fast break pass to her teammates flashing down the lanes.
Jaleiah Gibson (PF, 2022) was a nuisance on defense stepping up to tie up the ball making it difficult for her opponents to get by her. She sealed off her defender with ease inside making sure she was a big target to get the entry pass. She did a great job working with a high-low offense getting the ball at the elbow and finding her cutting teammate on the block.
Haley Dalton Haley Dalton 6'2" | C Salisbury | 2023 NC (SF, 2023) made an immediate impact every time she stepped on the court. She was grabbing rebounds and blocking shots with ease. She did well going up high for rebounds and putting the offensive boards right back up for some points. With her length, she can block shots and turn those into steals with ease.
Icesis Nwafor (SF, 2023) and Kiki Walker (G, 2022) also make strong contributions on the court. Nwafor scored on all levels. She did well moving without the ball to find the openings, and she had a nice old fashioned three point play showing no fear of contact by the hoop. Walker had a nice transition three pointer making sure her defense knew to never leave her wide open. She crashed the boards sneaking behind her opponents to make sure she was the one who got the ball. She moved well with the ball finding her open teammates inside and making sure she was in the best position to make the pass.
