Continue ReadingThe final results of the 4A-7 Girls conference tournament held in Arkadelphia went mostly as predicted. Higher seeds ruled for the most part. Top-seeded Nashville Scrappers and Bauxite Miners, 1 and 2 respectfully, made it to the final. Mena, placing 3rd and De Queen, 4th, also qualified for the 4A Girls South Region Tournament next week. Nashville defeated De Queen in one semifinal, 70-32. The other semifinal was a much closer 46-38 victory for Bauxite over Mena. In the finals, Nashville cruised to a 70-37 thumping of Bauxite. Mena defeated De Queen 46-38 in the consolation game. These were the top performers that help their teams advance;
Kyleigh Scoggins Kyleigh Scoggins 5'9" | PG Nashville | 2023 State AR -Nashville. A 5’8” junior, Kyleigh was probably the best player in the tournament. She guided her team to the championship by displaying a multitude of skills. Scoring at will and when double-teamed, dishing off for the assist. She leads the fast break and can go get a rebound when the team needs it. Her basketball IQ and court awareness is unmatched. In my view one of the top players in the state.
Laura Carver-Nashville. Another junior 5’8” swing guard, Laura moves very well without the ball. She compliments her teammates by understanding spacing so that the offense runs efficiently. She also anticipates well and gets out on the break for transition scores.
Aaliyah Hollies-Nashville. Just a sophomore, Aaliyah brings energy to the team off the bench. With her speed and rebounding ability, she plays hard on every possession. Her team is better when she’s on the court.
Gracie Hill-Bauxite. Gracie plays the post position for her team. She is relentless with her rebounding skills. At 5’10”, she is long and plays much bigger than her size. Only a junior, she leads the team in rebounding and will be a force in the playoffs.
Sara Harrell-Bauxite. As a swing guard, at 5’8”, Sara has the ability to score in the paint. She is strong and can knock down the three consistently. As a senior, Sara is the team leader and if she’s shooting the triple well, Bauxite can go deep in the playoffs.
Grayson Fairless Grayson Fairless 6'1" | C Mena | 2022 State AR -Mena. At 6’0”, Grayson can play post, or face the basket as a forward. She’s relentless on the boards and is the leading scorer on her team. As a senior, she plays in control and in many ways, is the team leader.
Brooklyn Pennington-Mena. Brooklyn is a junior swing guard that can play the point position as well. Very aggressive to the basket, she is a good 1 on 1 player but most importantly dribbles with her head up to see the entire court. Strong and quick, she is a pivotal part to the teams success.
Madilyn Lyle-Mena. The true point guard, Maddie handles the ball with ease in traffic. She has excellent court vision and leads her team in assists. This junior guard can go both ways at full speed.
Jera Cotton-De Queen. Jera is a senior swing guard that can post up. As the team leader, she can rebound and shoot. At 5’8”, she leads the team in scoring and is smart with the ball in her hands.
Belle Lindsay-De Queen. Belle, a junior, plays as a double threat down low with her teammate Jera Cotton. At 5’9”, Belle can post up or shoot the three. She is very tough to guard.
These student-athletes will all advance with their teams in the State Region Tournaments starting this next week. From this point on, all the games will be very competitive. Get out there and support your favorite team!
