The UIL Playoffs started yesterday and thanks to Livestream, I was able to catch a COMPETITIVE game. I normally don’t do first-round match-ups unless they’re double-headers, well any of the games because I love doubles so Langham Creek’s [player_tooltip player_id="158882" first="Heather" last="Baymon"] has been out all season however I didn’t realize [player_tooltip player_id="135377" first="Saija" last="Cleveland"] (Dayton signee) was out s well and that played a huge part in their losing 43-42 to Klein Collins, however, KC did bring some sunshine from the band, GOOGLE IT, as I caught some new faces, here are the Top Performers from my opening game
2022
Donalyn Nance-5’7 SG (Klein Collins)
Nance definitely brought some energy which trickled down to her teammates because she handled the ball under pressure and saw the floor and hit teammates with precision in transition and in the set however she also showed she could drop the long ball as well as apply pressure defensively
Akyra Hodges-5’8 PF (Langham Creek)
Hodges was overly impressed with her constant playing the passing lane as well as diving on the floor for loose balls but she battled for rebounds, on both ends, well she battled for everything but she also finished after the lick and did a good job defensively on the interior
Peyton Foster-5’10 SF (Langham Creek)
Foster has shown me numerous times she could score multiple ways so it was no surprise last night yet her powerful finishes after contact was huge and helped keep the Lobos in the mix, well that and her defense as well as rebounding
2023
Aubrey Campbell-6’2 C (Klein Collins)
Campbell had the soup cooking because she's long and very athletic so watching her timing to block or alter shots was nice, so were her swooping through the lane and elevating to get rebounds but her upside is still untapped and she scored a huge go-ahead basket down the stretch
[player_tooltip player_id="96161" first="Aniyah" last="Sanford"]-5’3 PG (Langham Creek)
Sanford is one of the many I have used this hashtag on #sizedontmatter because she can play and her poise under pressure has always stood out but her dropping the long ball in crunch time and nailing a free throw down the stretch showed exactly what I used that statement but alas, she understands how to control the tempo and set her teammates up for scoring opportunities
2024
Christin Callens-5’10 SF (Klein Collins)
Callens gave me an eyeful as she uses her athleticism nicely and let me start with her ballhandling in the open court under pressure but watching her take the defender off the dribble and finish after contact multiple times just did it for me but she also does something that will elevate her status, and when you can do that, you're an and one waiting to happen
2025
Ashlyn Hollis-6’0 SG (Klein Collins)
Hollis has been on my radar since she was a baby watching her older sister go completely off and have me yelling REX but "the baby" is long and athletic" with plenty of upside and watching her slice to the basket to score, play the passing lane and grab rebounds told me even more
