Sadie Jarmolowicz Sadie Jarmolowicz 5'9" | CG Freedom | 2023 State WI -5’10 PG-’23-Freedom
If you only look at a player’s shooting, you wouldn’t think that Jarmolowicz dominated Freedom’s two postseason games. However, the junior is the fuel that feeds the Freedom machine. Even though Jarmolowicz didn’t record another near quadruple-double, she was crucial in helping the Irish get into sectionals. When you watch Freedom play, the Irish guard always finds ways to leave her mark on games. In the regional title game against a top-10 Division 3 team in Wrightstown, Jarmolowicz was almost flawless. She grabbed seven rebounds, dished out four assists, earned five steals, and blocked three shots. To add to that, she only turned the ball over once. Jarmolowicz is not a name I see talked about when it comes to the top players in D3 often, but that’s where it belongs. A surface-level view of her game and numbers should be enough to make her an elite prospect. You don’t find many 5-foot-10 lead guards who shoot over 40% from the 3-point line, rebound, create, and not turn the ball over. She’s been one of my favorite prospects all season, and Freedom has an opportunity to get to Green Bay with two more wins.
Sammie Buss Sammie Buss 5'5" | PG Neenah | 2023 State WI -5’6 G-’23-Xavier
Since I wasn’t around last year, I never got to see Buss before her injury. This season I’ve been waiting for her to get back to who she was before her knee injury. Last weekend felt like it was close to that. Since Buss got back, she’s shown flashes of what she is at her best, but I didn’t expect her to be physically and mentally ready until this summer. I’m not sure what’s happened coming into the postseason, but when I watched the Hawks beat Amherst, I got a feeling that the junior was simply not accepting a loss. Buss was a cut above the other nine players on the floor Saturday night. It made me happy seeing her confidence on full display, leading the game with 22 points. Buss and her Hawks take on Jarmolowocz and her Freedom team Thursday night, making it a highly intriguing matchup between two high-level game-changers.
Bella Samz Bella Samz 5'9" | PG Arrowhead | 2023 State WI -5’8 PG-’23-Arrowhead
The Warhawks probably had the biggest test of anyone last weekend, playing a top-10 Division 1 team in Madison La Follette. The Lancers may have the most talented backcourt in the state, and Samz not only matched what they brought, but she also outplayed them. I’ve seen Samz enough to know she’s always up for a challenge. Whether it be on the road against Germantown or against one of the best sophomores in the country, Samz will be at her best. There’s a reason I call the Warhawk “Big Shot Bella,” it’s because she always answers the call when her team needs it most. Although the word “shot” is in the nickname, Samz only makes winning plays. Whether it be a picturesque leaning elbow jumper, breaking defenses with a pass, or protecting the ball, she will do whatever she can to win. She’s been excellent this year, and I’m excited to see what the rest of her time at Arrowhead holds for her and her team.
Jorey Buwalda Jorey Buwalda 6'0" | PF Randolph | 2023 State WI -6’0 F-’23-Randolph
To sum up, the game the Buwalda had against Sheboygan Lutheran is domination. The box score numbers tell you she was the main force on the floor, with 31 points and 13 rebounds. However, it was much more dominant than it looked in the box score. It felt like every miss that Randolph had, Buwalda was there for an offensive rebound seemingly every single time. A wild part of her Saturday is that she left points out there. She missed a few putbacks and only made one of her seven 3’s that night. Buwalda is having one of the most dominant seasons in any division. Keep an eye on schools, beginning to take more in-depth looks at her over the summer.
