In the Final 4, Grand Rapids West Catholic upended Detroit Country Day 62-42. On the other side of the bracket, Detroit Edison topped Ludington 63-30. In the championship game Detroit Edison defeated a gritty West Catholic team by a score of 73-55. I’m going to name a Most Outstanding Player and Honorable Mentions for the Division 2 Final 4.

HONORABLE MENTIONS
Dakota Alston Dakota Alston PG Detroit Edison | 2023 State MI (2023, PG, Detroit Edison)
Alston’s game went far beyond the stats. In the 2 Final 4 gamesshe averaged 7.5 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, and 2.5 assists per game. The telling stat however, was this: In about 48 minutes of game play, she turned the ball over twice.
Jaidyn Elam Jaidyn Elam 5'9" | CG Detroit Country Day | 2024 State MI (2024, CG, Detroit Country Day)
Elam finished an excellent run in the playoffs with a near double-double, finishing with 17 points and 9 rebounds. She also added 5 steals.
Devin Hagemann Devin Hagemann 5'6" | PG Detroit Edison | 2024 State MI (2024, PG, Detroit Edison)
Hagemann showed why so many people are so excited about her basketball future. She displayed tremendous court vision and passing in both games. Hagemann averaged 6 assists per game.
Abbey Kimball Abbey Kimball 5'10" | PG Grand Rapids West Catholic | 2022 State #63 Nation MI (2022, PG, Grand Rapids West Catholic)
Kimball only played just over 10 minutes in the semifinal game, but her elite skill was on full display in the championship. She had 26 points while shooting above 50% from the field and from 3 point range. Kimball also added 4 rebounds.
Ryann Rohrer Ryann Rohrer 5'11" | PF Ludington | 2022 State MI (2022, PF, Ludington)
Rohrer was outstanding for Ludington throughout the playoffs. She had 15 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field in the semifinals.
Emma Tuttle (2024, PF, Grand Rapids West Catholic)
Tuttle was a huge part of an impressive semifinal win. She produced a double-double with 12 points 11 boards. She attacked the glass again in the final, leading her team with 9 rebounds in the game.
Madisen Wardell Madisen Wardell 6'0" | PF Detroit Edison | 2022 State MI (2022, F, Detroit Edison)
Wardell was a force to be reckoned with in the Final 4. In the semis she had 10 points and 4 boards, but her defense ruled the day. She finished with 4 steals. Wardell had a dominating double-double in the title game, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Aysia Yokely Aysia Yokely 5'6" | PG Detroit Country Day | 2023 State MI (2023, PG, Detroit Country Day)
Yokely had a solid showing in a semifinal loss to West Catholic. She had a game high 21 points, 12 of which came off 3 pointers. Yokely also added 7 rebounds.
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER
Ruby Whitehorn Ruby Whitehorn 6'0" | PG Detroit Edison | 2022 State #20 Nation MI (2022, PG, Detroit Edison)
Whitehorn ended her basketball career on top. She won Michigan’s Miss Basketball and topped that off with another state championship. In the semifinals she 18 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists in just 18 minutes of action. Whitehorn took over in the finals. She finished with a dominating 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. Whitehorn was strong, smooth, and steady throughout. She has such a good feel for the ebbs and flows of a game and responds to each and every situation in an excellent way both physically and mentally. Whitehorn may go down as one of the most talented players in the history of the state by the time her college career is over.
