Bishop Foley had a memorable season and showed toughness and talent in their epic run. Kent City however, wouldn’t be denied in earning a chance at a state championship. They definitely had the look of a state title team in their semifinal victory. Let’s look at 5 stars from the game.
Arbor Prep also advanced to the title game with a 57-44 win over a talented Glen Lake squad. A big 14-7 3rd quarter went a long way in securing the victory. Arbor Prep looked like a very dangerous team with a lot of elite talent on their roster.
Lexie Bowers Lexie Bowers 5'7" | CG Kent City | 2023 State MI (2023, PG, Kent City)
Kent City locked up a return trip to the state finals with a 47-30 victory over a tough Bishop Foley team. Bowers was paced the team with a game high 22 points. She’s so valuable in her ability to control the game with her scoring and decision making. Bowers showed the range she has on her jumper by going 5-11 from behind the arc. She’s able to log heavy minutes and not let it effect her game.
Grace Bradford Grace Bradford PF Maple City Glen Lake | 2022 State MI (2022, F, Glen Lake)
Bradford was as advertised in the semifinals. She finished the game with a double-double, scoring a team high 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Bradford was able to set the tone in the lane.
Madelyn Geers Madelyn Geers 5'9" | SG Kent City | 2024 State MI (2024, SG, Kent City)
Geers played a big part in Kent City advancing to the championship game. She finished the game with a double-double scoring 16 points and grabbing 14 boards, but that doesn’t tell the entire story. She doesn’t have to be shot dependent on her way to putting up numbers. Geers recognizes good shots and connects when they’re there and finished the game shotting 7-13 from the field.
Ryan Moorer Ryan Moorer 5'9" | SG Madison Heights Bishop Foley | 2024 State MI (2024, G/F, Bishop Foley)
Moorer may not have been grooving her shot yesterday, but her talent was more than evident. She finished the game with 7 points and 10 rebounds. She extended some possessions by grabbing 6 rebounds on the offensive end.
Mya Petticord Mya Petticord 5'9" | PG Arbor Prep | 2022 State #33 Nation MI (2022, PG, Arbor Prep)
Petticord was her usual terrific self in Arbor Prep’s 57-44 win over Glen Lake. She didn’t ’go off’ offensively, but that’s what makes her performance even more special. Even when she’s not lighting it up from the field, Petticord finds a way to control the game. Simply, she did the little things. She went 9-9 from the free throw line, had 4 steals, and only turned the ball over 1 time in 29 minutes of play.
Taryn Preston (2022, G/F, Kent City)
Preston played 32 minutes of really solid and consistent basketball. She finished with 7 points and 10 rebounds in the contest. Preston added a couple blocks as well. She shot the ball pretty well and went 2-2 from the charity stripe. If Preston can play that many minutes of basically mistake free basketball, Kent City will bring home a title.
Karianna Woods Karianna Woods 5'7" | CG Arbor Prep | 2022 State MI (2022, CG, Arbor Prep)
Woods has been tremendous throughout the playoffs and nothing changed last night. She finished the game with 10 points, but it was her ability to find open teammates and get them the ball that was most impressive. Woods finished the game with 6 assists.
