HONORABLE MENTIONS

[player_tooltip player_id="188581" first="Sydney" last="Hendrix"] (2023, F, West Bloomfield)
Hendrix and defense played a role in West Bloomfield’s run to a state title. She can defend in both the perimeter and in the paint. Hendrix was a beast on the defensive glass all season long.
[player_tooltip player_id="189308" first="Nyemah" last="Hodo"] (2023, C, Ecorse)
Hodo is a menace in the paint for any opponent trying to get a good look from under the rim. She can use her strength to move her opponent out of position, and even when they do gain position, she’s a great vertical defender that can block a ton of shots.
[player_tooltip player_id="188564" first="Maddie" last="Petroelje"] (2023, G/F, Hudsonville)
Petroelje is just flat out as tough as they come. Her toughness alone earns her stops. Petroelje is a versatile defender that can guard multiple positions and at many different spots on the floor.
[player_tooltip player_id="280873" first="Ava" last="Scanlon"] (2023, C, Grand Ledge)
Scanlon is probably underrated as a defender in my opinion. She’s a true 2 way player that makes it incredibly tough for opponents to get clean looks at the rim. Scanlon plays disciplined and determined defense.
[player_tooltip player_id="189278" first="Janae" last="Tyler"] (2023, C, Holt)
Tyler sent a message to the rest of the state with her play this season. A big part of that message involved her tremendous post defense. Tyler has good footwork in the paint on D and plays solid help defense.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

[player_tooltip player_id="188583" first="Sarah" last="Rambus"] (2023, PF, Flushing)
Rambus is a true star on the defensive end of the floor. She just so long and athletic that good shots are really tough to come by. Rambus alters a ton of shots with her length and verticality. She does a nice job of staying on the floor and challenging shots without fouling. Rambus uses her long strides to get back on D and limit transition buckets for the other team. She has all the tools to be an elite defender even at the next level.
