GHSA State Playoffs: Top Guards Pt. 4
I traveled long and far across the entire state of Georgia from the North to the South, East to West to see some of the most intriguing matchups throughout the state tournament. Now that I can finally catch my breath, here are some of the top performers I saw over the past month of the GHSA State Playoffs.
2022 5-9 PG Avery Fantucci – Marist
If you’ve been living under a rock, google Avery Fantucci. The Michigan softball signee became a legend, hitting a halfcourt buzzer beater to send the 4A State Championship to overtime and then won the game in double overtime with a layup at the buzzer. Steady guard that competes. Not flashy. Tough-nosed defender and a capable rebounder.
2022 6-0 G [player_tooltip player_id="118139" first="Sydney" last="Bowles"] – Woodward Academy
UGA-signee repeated as state champion, winning the title game by 28 points. Three-level scorer with an elite perimeter game poured in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
2022 5-10 PG [player_tooltip player_id="210365" first="Susanna" last="Rogers"] – Sequoyah
Lee-signee double-doubled in the 6A State Championship with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Long playmaker that sees the floor well and creates for others.
2024 5-9 PG [player_tooltip player_id="218613" first="Bryanna" last="Preston"] – Lovejoy
Led Lovejoy to state title. Elite athlete with hand-eye coordination to poke away steals. Does a great job getting into the lane and dumping off to her big men for easy buckets. Pull-up jumper has brought her game to another level. High Major playmaker.
2025 5-10 PG [player_tooltip player_id="248416" first="Aubrey" last="Beckham"] – Hebron Christian
One of the best freshmen in Georgia. Had 15 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in A-Private State Championship. Plays under control and can hurt teams in a variety of ways. Good shooter that is crafty downhill. Uses her length to disrupt opposing offenses and rebounds against bigger players.
2024 5-8 G [player_tooltip player_id="402177" first="Georgia" last="Bosart"] – Lake Oconee Academy
LOA rode [player_tooltip player_id="402177" first="Georgia" last="Bosart"] to their first-ever state championship. Collected 17 points, 20 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Plays with a tremendous motor. Scores with either hand at the rim. Brings great effort on defense.
2024 5-9 PG [player_tooltip player_id="253969" first="Jania" last="Akins"] – Norcross
Scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to lift Norcross to 7A State Championship. Hit back-to-back corner threes to ignite the Lady Blue. Has nice size and quickness on the perimeter. Grabs rebounds and starts her own fast break. Explosive scoring capabilities.
