PGH Circuit Team Profiles: Houston Lady Nets
Grassroots basketball is what I love because the competition is tougher and I always say, “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” so when you have even more next-level players going against next-level players, a light bulb should go off in the heads of novices who don’t comprehend meaningless stats and awards don’t necessarily carry a lot of weight, BTW I have lost over 60 lbs and I’m ready to hang out on the PGH Circuit, I am a Regional Scout and I’m dropping some profiles on a few teams from the Dynasty Region, which I’ll be covering like a blanket. Texas Cagers, Team Stay Ready as well as the El Paso Lady Hustle are coming up yet this past weekend, at the, what else, Simmie Colson Classic, I got a great view of the Houston Lady Nets and their director, head coach, Dominique Willaims
Coach Williams has been involved in youth sports since 2006 when her nephew wanted to play ball yet prior to that, she has some lasting memories of helping lead Aldine to the playoffs three consecutive seasons before heading to Lamar where she tore her ACL yet those memories of coaching her nephew catapulted into her starting the Houston Nets boys program in 2010 which would be enough for a normal person yet she is everything but normal
Over the years she has been asking me to check her squad out, she started the girls’ side in 2018 and our paths finally crossed accidentally a couple of seasons ago as I attended an event when another was canceled yet got a better view last season and I’m thinking, “she’s definitely on to something” yet with 2 girls’ teams and 8 boys, the pillars she and her staff instill are FAMILY, INTEGRITY, and MENTORSHIP, it’s more than just basketball
She gave me a rundown on some of her squad and her evals were on point as guess who’s coming to Top 100 + before it’s over with
Taylor Spencer (Cleveland HS) 2024
Spencer goes hard the whole game and falls into that “never takes a play-off type of player yet she’s crafty, creates her shot and sees the floor, she was also MVP of her district
Zakenya Thompson (Spring HS) 2024
Thompson is a shooter is what Willaims said, she was right, and watching her quick release from deep was nice, so was her attacking the basket and applying heat defense
Sariah Fuentes (Klein Cain) 2025
Fuentes was another shooter Willaims mentioned, 7 or 8 three-pointers later I guess she was right but I enjoyed her energy just as much as her quick release, and let me add this, huge upside
Kennedy Simpson 2026
Simpson might not be related to Valerie as in Ashford and Simpson yet she makes the nets sing and trust me, she is going to be a hit. Love the floater, she creates her shot under pressure and will be a “nightmare to defend”
We also talked about team goals and this touched me when Williams said “continue to help girls get on the map” and get next-level opportunities, since I’m an artist, that is going to happen because I know which PLATFORM really matters. Some of her underrated players are
Taylor Perkins defies gravity, Asia Davis who dies the little things that turn out to be big, and Brooke Maxwell who shows #sizedontmatter when you can play. Keiora Gaines and Keira Nelson are a couple of others that are “on the verge”
I love talking to coaches who haven’t lied on me or tried to downplay what I’ve done to help put Texas players on the map so certain people involved in this, I have no use for, I ain’t changing at my age so this was enjoyable to dive deeper into Coach Willaims mind and I asked what was her biggest takeaway from our conversation and why she chose the PGH Circuit and she said
“I’m passionate about this, the children are our future and I want to help save the generation” ” I chose the circuit because it gives teams many consider average an opportunity to show they can play” and although I was hoping she chose it because of me, that was perfect but peep this, her team is for average and neither is she because I truly enjoyed our chat
