There was some truly elite individual talent and teams to see in Michigan during the 2021-2022 basketball season. We’re going to give you a Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Player of the Year and Honorable Mentions for the class of 2022.

<h2>HONORABLE MENTIONS</h2>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147718" first="Rakiyah" last="Beal"] (SF, Hamtramck)</strong>
Beal helped put Hamtramck in the spotlight this season. She was one of the top wings in the state.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="189283" first="Ava" last="Boike"] (SG, Genesee Christian)</strong>
Boike was a high level go to scorer for Genesee Christian. She led her team all the way to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="253597" first="Ashley" last="Bower"] (SG, Portland)</strong>
Bower was one of the steadiest scorers in the state. She consistently put up around 20 a game for 2 years now, leading her team to a state title last year and a quarterfinal appearance this season.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147747" first="Brooke" last="Daniels"] (PG, L’Anxe Creuse North)</strong>
Daniels had a tremendous season in which she showed off her dynamic handles and ability to create for herself and her teammates.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147782" first="Anna" last="Fernandez"] (PG, Plymouth Christian)</strong>
Fernandez was one of the top pure shooting point guards in Michigan. She led her team all the way to a state finals appearance.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147715" first="Theryn" last="Hallock"] (SG, Forest Hills Central)</strong>
Hallock is one of the grittiest and most well rounded players in the midwest. Her shooting and toughness helped make her an elite talent.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147716" first="Abbey" last="Kimball"] (PG, Grand Rapids West Catholic)</strong>
Kimball is one of the top lead guard prospects in the country and it showed the entire season, all the way through the championship game. She can play with anyone in the country.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="186364" first="Alexandra" last="Kolnitys"] (PG, Midland Dow)</strong>
Kolnitys had a Miss Basketball type of season. She was the leader and table setter of one of the top Division 1 team’s in the state.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147754" first="Gabrielle" last="Lutchka"] (SF, Grass Lake)</strong>
Due to an injury, Lutchka was given the task of defending Grass Lake’s state title without her star running mate. Well, she made a valiant run, leading her team all the way to the regional championship game.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="185193" first="Lina" last="Rea"] (PG, Utica)</strong>
Rea was on a tear in her senior season. She had some staggering offensive numbers and showed that she could score in bunches.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="178862" first="Mia" last="Riley"] (PG, Fowler)</strong>
Riley led Fowler to back to back state titles. She had the ball in her hands in big moments and always delivered.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147739" first="Amanda" last="Roach"] (CG, Hartland)</strong>
Roach was key in Hartland reaching the state title game. Her intensity and defensive energy were incredibly valuable to her team’s success.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147767" first="Madison" last="Skorupski"] (CG, Clarkston)</strong>
Skorupski had a terrific senior season in which she proved to be a dynamic scorer that didn’t need to be shot heavy.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147720" first="Jaci" last="Tubergen"] (SG, Hudsonville)</strong>
Tubergen became Hudsonville’s all time leading scorer this season and helped her team make a valiant run at trying to defend their title.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147717" first="Madisen" last="Wardell"] (F, Detroit Edison)</strong>
Wardell was the model of consistency and versatility for a state title DEPSA squad.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147727" first="Nevaeh" last="Williams"] (CG, Mt. Clemens)</strong>
Williams was one of the most prolific scorers in the state, putting up video game like numbers.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147724" first="Avery" last="Zeinstra"] (PG, Byron Center)</strong>
As a premier shooter and lead guard in the state, Zeinstra led her team to a District title.
<h2>CO-PLAYERs OF THE YEAR</h2>
Once again, I decided Co-Players of the Year was the way to go. These 2 athletes embody all that is right with high school athletics. They both came in with superstar reputations, worked hard to make those reputations reality, and left as elite talents with state titles.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147714" first="Mya" last="Petticord"] (PG, Arbor Prep)</strong>
Petticord is a top 25 talent in the country if you ask me. She’s a 1 woman press break and can stifle a defense with her handles. Petticord can create off the bounce which leads to offense for herself as well as her teammates. Her jumper was pure this season and she showed that she could work for shots off the ball as well. Petticord finished her senior season as a state champion at Arbor Prep.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147713" first="Ruby" last="Whitehorn"] (PG, Detroit Edison)</strong>
Whitehorn is yet another generational type talent at Detroit Edison. Her combination of strength, height, and ball skills helps make her a truly elite player. Whitehorn can make a defense pay from anywhere on the floor. Play too close and she’ll blow by you. Play off of her and she’ll bury a jumper. For 4 years now, it’s really been pick your poison. Whitehorn led Detroit Edison to another state championship and continued the program’s epic run.
