Continue ReadingAs the South Dakota state tournaments come available on-demand to view, PGH Dakotas will give our input on the prospects that stood-out, broke-out, and some future prospects that competed in the state tournaments. There is much more to take in from the state tournaments and we will have you covered on our thoughts. There were some names that rose their stock a great deal, even leading their teams to state championships from a bottom seed. Bottom line, I want to watch the teams/prospects at least twice before giving thoughts on their performances or projections moving forward.
This post is more of a quick-hitter with more details to follow.
Also, I wanted to mention that I will be giving projections on how prospects stand in their college destinations. This is all by my opinion with some outside resources as well. Their are many variables in how a prospect is projected. The tiers for level of college play are below, to give it our not-so-familiar audience a better view and understanding.
Division 1
Division 2/JUCO
Division 2/NAIA/JUCO
NAIA/JUCO
Division 3/JUCO
You’ll see Junior College is in four tiers. This is because many prospects will choose Junior College programs in hopes to move up levels and prove themselves. Junior college has great talent with prospects turning D1/D2 at a high rate. It’s more of a preference per prospect to prospect in how they want to decide their future.

Standouts
Coral Mason Coral Mason 5'10" | CG Viborg-Hurley | 2023 State SD – Coral turned herself into a household name in her performance against Aberdeen Roncalli. She turned it on in the 2nd half of that game to defeat the #1 ranked Cavaliers. She was already ranked high by PGH Dakotas, but the state tournament got her name out there. Coral is a long guard that goes to the hoop quickly in a straight line – and is a great finisher. She’s in store for a huge Senior campaign as a do it at all prospect with high skill and a high motor. She’s borderline D2/NAIA, with playing for a small school as her only hold-back.
Denae Mach Denae Mach 5'9" | SG Viborg-Hurley | 2023 State SD – Denae was a high-volume shooter, but she needed to be aggressive for her team to ultimately win the state championship. Her and Coral Mason Coral Mason 5'10" | CG Viborg-Hurley | 2023 State SD carried the team. Denae was a top scorer in the tournament at 18.3 per game. She put in 23 points in the championship game. She’s a college prospect that translates to a solid NAIA program.
Kaycee Groves Kaycee Groves 5'11" | SF Faith | 2022 State SD – Kaycee has been dealing with knee injuries but that didn’t stop Black Hills State from recognizing her talent, as she is a commit to the D2 program. She has good height and a strong body. Has the skills with the ball in her hands and a smooth jumper that doesn’t need much space. I haven’t had much information on her injury recovery, so she was removed from the rankings for a time, but she will be thrusted back in in the final update to close off the 2022 class. She will be a lock for the top 15. She was moving surprisingly well in the state tournament.
Rylee Rosenquist Rylee Rosenquist 5'8" | CG Dakota Valley | 2022 State SD – Rylee is a stat-stuffing machine in all stat categories. She was ripping down rebounds and quickly going up-court. She was 3rd in scoring at 17.3 ppg., 2nd in steals, 2nd in rebounding at 12.7, and 1st in assists at 5.7. She has the ball in her hands a large majority and she’s a playmaker with the ball, as a facilitator and scorer.
Breakout Prospects
Jada Burke Jada Burke 5'9" | SG De Smet | 2023 State SD – Jada is a transfer from Clark/Willow Lake and she put her name out there after the state B tournament. What stood out about Jada was her ability to handle the ball on her own and make difficult finishes around the hoop. She averaged 13.0 ppg. in the tournament and was playing with great confidence out there. The lefty guard/wing should be on the radar for NAIA/JUCO programs, as she showed great versatility with the ball.
Tabor Teel Tabor Teel 6'0" | SG West Central | 2022 State SD – Tabor had been mentioned already but I wanted to make it known she recently committed to nationally recognized NAIA program in Dakota State. She had a great state A tournament for West Central. She’s a six-foot guard that was attacking the hoop to the right and playing inside, snagging offensive boards and drawing fouls.
Future Prospects
Hazel Luethmers Hazel Luethmers 5'9" | SG De Smet | 2026 State SD , the 2026 guard/wing from De Smet is a name to keep an eye on. She’s long at 5’9 and moves extremely well on the court, with some solid skills already – and poise and confidence.
Addison Kleis Addison Kleis 5'10" | SG Dakota Valley | 2025 IA is a long 5’10 Freshman guard for Dakota Valley. In the West Central game she appeared in the game in the 1st quarter off the bench.
Maya Nelson Maya Nelson 5'5" | CG Sioux Falls Christian | 2025 State SD – Maya is a Freshman guard that got minutes in the state tournament and was in the rotation. She wasn’t flashy or does she have major standout traits at this time in her career, but she’ll be an important guard for Sioux Falls Christian and their future success. She’s a potential college guard.
