The 2021-22 Texas high school basketball season is officially in the books. That makes this the perfect time to take a quick look back at some of the most impressive prospects that I had the privilege of seeing this past year. While there is certainly room for specialists in basketball, players who do a variety of things at a high level will always be more valuable. Prospects that are able to contribute in multiple ways are extremely difficult to deal with. It's become increasingly important for individuals to develop well-rounded styles of play rather than focusing on one skillset, especially on the offensive end of the floor. With that in mind, let's take a look back at some of the best offensive weapons from this past season of high school hoops: Peyton Mosley | 2022 | 5'9'' Point Guard | Prosper HS - I've been banging the drum for Mosley for the past couple of seasons because I genuinely believe she is one of the most underrated prospects in the state. She is equal parts playmaker and crafty scorer and balances those responsibilities beautifully. Missouri Southern is getting an absolute steal here, as it is my belief that Mosley will be able to quarterback their offense from day one. [player_tooltip player_id="65915" first="Jazzy" last="Owens"]-Barnett | 2022 | 5'8'' Point Guard | Frisco Liberty HS - An explosive first step coupled with her shot-making and finishing abilities made Owens-Barnett one of the most dangerous players in the state over the course of her high school career. She can blow by just about anyone, can convert difficult jumpers, and plays with toughness when attacking off the bounce. I loved her ability to produce in both the half court as well as in transition. Jordan Wright | 2022 | 5'7'' Point Guard | Frisco HS - Wright was constantly keeping defenders on their heels with her shifty handle and fluid ability to change directions. She can put the ball in the basket from all three levels as a scorer. The Tarleton point guard commit is also an outstanding decision maker who can read a defense and attack its weaknesses. Alexis Purcell | 2022 | 5'5'' Point Guard | Rockwall HS - Purcell scores with consistency at the rim, shoots the three efficiently, and is a brilliant ball handler and playmaker. She can make all the passes and possesses outstanding court vision. Additionally, The East Texas Baptist commit can produce on or away from the ball and operate at either backcourt spot despite leaning more towards being a lead guard. [player_tooltip player_id="202485" first="Victoria" last="Dixon"] | 2022 | 5'5'' Point Guard | South Grand Prairie HS - Dixon takes care of the basketball on offense by making smart decisions and understanding how to play situational basketball. She was great at assisting on threes in drive and kick scenarios, but also showed that she can finish it herself when attacking the basket off the dribble. Furthermore, she finishes well off the drive vs. size and is a capable shooter from behind the arc. [player_tooltip player_id="135370" first="Alisa" last="Williams"] | 2022 | 6'1'' Power Forward | Denton Braswell HS - You don't have to be a guard to make this list. That said, part of what makes Williams so special is that she has some guard-like skills, and she doesn't have to sacrifice any of her ability as a forward to deploy said skills. Beyond her excellent touch and toughness in the paint, she is also a masterful passer out of the post. The LSU commit can even handle the ball some too and knock down the jumper from mid to long range. [player_tooltip player_id="202477" first="Jazmyne" last="Jackson"] | 2022 | 5'7'' Combo Guard | Denton Braswell HS - Jackson is one of the few prospects that I had the luxury of seeing multiple times this season, and she showed me something different each game. The first go-around, she was a speedy ball handler who could shake off defenders and get to the hoop, as well as a knock-down shooter from the outside. When I saw her again in the playoffs, she was more of a distributor. She had a heavy influence on the game in both scenarios, proving she can adapt her style of play when necessary, and more importantly, recognizes when and how to do so. [player_tooltip player_id="96128" first="Amarachi" last="Kimpson"] | 2023 | 5'8'' Point Guard | Little Elm HS - Kimpson is a triple-double threat whenever she steps on the court. She can really do it all. Shooting, finishing, passing, and everything in between, she has the ability to impact games in just about every way imaginable. I can't wait to see what she has in store for her senior campaign next season. Alaisha Brown | 2023 | 5'9'' Small Forward | Arlington Bowie HS - Brown's performance in her postseason matchup against Denton Ryan was next level. She can operate as a traditional wing, or as a point forward with her accuracy and vision as a passer. The 2023 prospect absorbs contact at the rim and is as tough as they come when finishing in the paint. She also chips in on the offensive glass. This is one of those players who can put an entire team on her back with her ability to produce in a number of areas. Idara Udo | 2023 | 6'0'' Power Forward | Plano East HS - Udo's touch near the basket was up there with the best of them this year. She bully's defenders in the paint and drops it in the basket with ease. She has a variety of moves to go to down low. In addition, Udo can stretch out to the mid-range area and shoot it with confidence. She also battles on the offensive glass for second chance opportunities. [player_tooltip player_id="158861" first="Kaelyn" last="Hamilton"] | 2024 | 5'10'' Combo Guard | McKinney North HS - Hamilton was a joy to watch in the summer and equally as enjoyable with her high school squad. She is a gifted playmaker with just a fantastic overall feel for the game on offense. She can score from anywhere too. When she gets downhill and has the option to go up herself or drop it off to a teammate, she is reliable to make the correct decision. The fact that she still has two years of eligibility remaining is scary to think about.
Honorable Mentions
Adrianna McCoy | 2022 | 5'7'' Combo Guard | Frisco Reedy HS KK Jones | 2023 | 5'7'' Point Guard | Denton Guyer HS [player_tooltip player_id="391609" first="Torie" last="Sevier"] | 2023 | 6'4'' Power Forward/Center | Denton Braswell HS [player_tooltip player_id="134046" first="Sydney" last="Wade"] | 2023 | 5'4'' Point Guard | John Paul II HS Harley Harbour | 2022 | 5'10'' Power Forward | Frisco Reedy HS
