With the end of the high school basketball season, a new door opens; AAU basketball. AAU basketball erupts at the end April - early May. At the immediate end of the basketball season, AAU coaches round their respective teams together; pursuing the best players for a chance at the championship for their respective regions. Below are my top shooting guards to watch for this summer.
[player_tooltip player_id="304710" first="Destine" last="Duckworth"] | 5’10 | North Little Rock | 2022
Like I’ve previously stated, Destine is a well-oiled machine. With her size, she is able to bully anyone in the paint where it seems like she can’t miss. if you sagged off of her, she simply pulled it. Not only does she control the flow of the offense, she also has a high motor on defense. Notching 17 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals, and an assist in the championship game she is a stat sheet stuffer. AAU is a more freelance play-style so look for her numbers to rise even higher.
Kenly McCarn | 5’11 | Melbourne | 2022
whenever she steps on the court, McCarn is arguably the best. The UT-Martin commit is a Swiss Army knife if I’ve seen one. She slashes, finishes at the rim with her weak hand, made off the dribble shots, got her and her teammates open looks in transition, and her footwork is immaculate. Defensively, she was a solid on-ball defender. Her rotations are spot on. She completely dominates the game. with 31pts on 11-20 from the field with 6 three-pointers, Kenley was named tournament MVP. Look for her to add more hardware to her collection this summer.
[player_tooltip player_id="304738" first="Laylah" last="Reese"] | 5’7 | Cabot | 2023
What Reese lacks in height she makes up with heart. holding offers from Texas State and SMU, Laylah is an athlete that brings every tool to the table. She can attack you, play and defend multiple positions, hit the three-ball, play make for her team, shoot the mid-range efficiently, and lock up defensively. She is like a cornerback the way she anticipates the ball and gets to the spot. any team would be lucky to pick her up as she deserves more recognition.
[player_tooltip player_id="304744" first="Kamille" last="Brown"] | 5’7 | 2023 | Conway | 2023
when it comes to being a defensive pest, Kamille takes the cake. often tasked with guarding the opposing team's best player, Brown thrives in the challenge. She sacrifices her body and plays beyond the stat sheet. Her contributions to Conway’s play never go unnoticed. However, she is not just a dog on defense. she gets to it offensively too, thriving in the open court. she doesn’t shy away from contact, inviting players to challenge her at the rim. She gives 100 percent every game and because of this she never fails to get better. I’m looking forward to a big summer from Kamille.
[player_tooltip player_id="304688" first="Jordan" last="Marshall"] | 5’11 | 2024 | Little Rock Central
With D1 offers already, Marshall is already primed for a fantastic career. With Marshall being a sophomore, she will surely blossom into an even more defined player come her senior year. She is able to defend every position while playing them as well at her young age. she has shown maturity all season averaging about 15 points per game.
