We’ve been running through the top five players at each position for this class and from shooting guard, we move to small forward, with 10 small forwards listed in the current class. Here are the top five small forwards in the updated 2022 class.
No. 8: Alana Robinson Alana Robinson 5'10" | SF Pope John | 2022 State NJ – 5-10, Pope John
We’ve seen the continued development of this forward throughout the years and despite just 32 games played over the past two years, Robinson is an absolute monster on both sides of the ball. For starters, she’s someone who can average a double-double with ease, just missing out on a double-double average this season after two-straight seasons with one. She’s active and agile both on-ball and off-ball and does a great job at creating space to operate down low. Robinson is arguably the best shot-blocker in the senior class and she can create turnovers unlike anyone else. This is a player this AAU season you’re not going to want to miss.
No. 14: Mary Donnelly Mary Donnelly 5'10" | SF Manasquan | 2022 State NJ – 5-10, Manasquan
Donnelly had her best season by far as a senior and it’s helped to catapult herself a conversation of one of the best in the Shore Conference. She’s been the energetic spark-plug that has helped Manasquan go over the past several years. This year in particular, we’ve seen a player who’s been much more active as a three-point shooter and a passer. While she averaged just 3.5 assists a game as a senior, her ability to find open lanes to dish the ball off to teammates has been crucial for Manasquan. She’s turned the corner as a lock-down defender and on top of that, Donnelly has flirted with triple-doubles quite often this season. Having that combination of being a multi-threat player is extremely dangerous.
No. 44: Sarah Zimmerman Sarah Zimmerman 5'8" | SF Lacey | 2022 State NJ – 5-8, Lacey
Zimmerman has put up very similar numbers over the past two seasons that have stabilized her as a player. Not just that, but the senior has done a fantastic job at making necessary improvements to her offensive game, getting to the foul line much more often this season. Her passing has shown some slight tweaks to it that have been very helpful for her. Most importantly, her defense, which was good, got even better as a senior. While some thought she might have missed a step after not playing at all in the spring, she’s silenced any doubters and made many heads turn during the winter and spring.
No. 50: Marquae Richardson-Muse – 5-9, Haddon Heights
Richardson-Muse averaged in double-figures for the second season in her career and it wasn’t by accident when you watch the tape. Her offensive game in the lane improved immensely and she also was more effective from beyond the arc, knocking down three-pointers at a career-high clip. Richardson-Muse has worked to find her rhythm through creating space or drawing contact at a premium against opponents. She’s doing the little things right, which we saw in her final nine games in high school. She scored in double-figures in eight of those nine games, including a 22-point performance against Haddonfield. That peak is the kind of sustainability she can possess.
No. 55: Dakota Corey Dakota Corey 5'10" | SF Saddle River Day | 2022 State NJ – 5-10, Saddle River Day
Corey is an exciting prospect to look at, especially when you see the rapid increase of production she had as a rebounder for the Colonial Rebels as a senior. While her offense did decline slightly this season, she hauled in two more rebounds a game for SRD, expanded her offense more, especially beyond the arc, and definitely got the line more often. Not just that, but her overall shooting has gotten more efficient and she looks more confident as a shooter as well. Her release looks more effortless than ever and her defense has become dominant once again. That sort of production has made her such a vital player for Saddle River Day.
