The list of prospects in the updated class of 2022 rankings is full of talented players. Some are new and some have been there for a while. Either way, a type of prospect that college coaches will want to be very aware of are the ’sleepers’. These athletes may not be household names or get the statewide recognition that the girls at the top get, but make no mistake, they have the talent to play college basketball someday.

SLEEPERS IN THE 2022 MICHIGAN PROSPECT RANKINGS

[player_tooltip player_id="185193" first="Lina" last="Rea"] (PG, Utica)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Ranking: #56
Rea walked away from her senior season with a lot of accolades for a ’sleeper’, but I still don’t think that she gets as much publicity as she deserves. Rea was basically unstoppable on the offensive end, even getting Miss Basketball finalist talk. She will be playing basketball at Valparaiso University next season.
[player_tooltip player_id="147752" first="Melanie" last="Moore"] (C, Bishop Foley)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Ranking: #58
The Rochester University commit has been a rock for the Bishop Foley program. She’s as tough as they come and a grinder in the paint. Moore is excellent on the glass and really limits the opposing offenses possessions. Moore is one of the better post players in Michigan’s senior class.
[player_tooltip player_id="227317" first="Maddie" last="Schuur"] (SG, Zeeland East)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Ranking: #94
Schuur will be playing college basketball at Spring Arbor University next season. She’s one of the most efficient shooters and scorers in the state. Schuur has quietly had one of the better high school basketball careers in the state.
[player_tooltip player_id="227584" first="Lizzy" last="Scharer"] (PG, Lenawee Christian)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Ranking: #124
I’ll admit, I’m a big fan of Scharer’s game. She can control the pace and move the opposing defense like chess pieces. Scharer attacks the defense off the bounce and creates for herself and her teammates. She’s been a big part of the success of the Lenawee Christian team the past couple of years.
[player_tooltip player_id="178866" first="Stephanie" last="Clark"] (SG. Ypsilanti Lincoln)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Ranking: #183
Clark deserved to see her name in ink way more often. She’s very underrated as a player and has some real upside as a prospect. Clark has a nice combination of strength and athleticism. She will be playing basketball at Cottey College next season.
[player_tooltip player_id="277643" first="Ainsley" last="Florence"] (SF, Plymouth)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Ranking: #214
Florence will be playing at Lake Michigan College and is exactly the type of person and player that college coaches are in search of. She’s a sponge for information and will give maximum effort in improving her game. Florence can score at all 3 levels and does a really nice job filling a wing and playing off her point guard.
[player_tooltip player_id="361051" first="Breckyn" last="Werner"] (C, Portland)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Ranking: #225
Werner was surrounded by a pair of terrific guards, but she was critical in the success of her team, which included a state title in her junior year. She was the center piece in the paint for her program for the last 4 years. She rebounded the ball on both ends and defended the paint at a high level. Werner will be playing at Alma College next season.
[player_tooltip player_id="414652" first="Lauren" last="Walker"] (SG, Essexville Garber)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Ranking: #297
Walker is a terrific all around athlete that was an under the radar basketball star this past season. Walker was a terrific defender that could pressure the ball and create turnovers. Walker is set to attend Central Michigan and play soccer.
