Class B honors carry a lot of weight as you consider the fact that these 18 athletes were honored out of 78 teams! This article will outline honors for each athlete, a short synopsis of their style of play and performance, commitments, and statistical averages. The All-State Recipients in this class are dominated by seniors who capped off their high school careers in a big way with 8 out of 12 of these athletes finishing their final year. All 12 of these athletes were juniors or seniors. Only 4 of these 12 talented athletes have committed themselves to play at the next level which leaves 8 all-state players who remain eligible to bring their talent to the college level.
First Team
Kennadi Buchholz Kennadi Buchholz 6'0" | C De Smet | 2022 State SD- DeSmet (Senior) – C
- PPG – 20.4, RPG – 13.5, BPG – 3.2
- Head Coach – Brendon Pitts
- Commitment – None
- Buchholz is arguably the greatest post talent in Class B and she remains as a prospect out there for colleges. How often do we see an end-of-year stat line of over 20 points and 13 rebounds per contest! Those numbers alone hold enough weight but add in the defensive disruption of over 3 blocks per night also and you have a huge talent with this post player. Sharp footwork, stretch the floor shooting, and smart shot-blocking headline the skills of this talented senior. These skills were recognized not only with an all-state honor but also with the Class B PLAYER OF THE YEAR! Congrats Kennadi!
- White River (Senior) – G
- PPG – 27.0, RPG – 7.0, SPG – 3.2
- Head Coach – Jared Bouman
- Commitment – Dakota Weslyan University
- Estes led class B in scoring with an impressive 27.0 points per outing. This athlete impresses with clutch shot after shot in games. She attacks the paint well and reads defenses very well when she gets there. Pair this with a great ability to operate in transition and you have a very dynamic scorer. With a unique ability to create her own shot, you can see this kid puts in the time to improve and has a true passion for the sport. She is one of the most impressive perimeter players you will find and Dakota Wesleyan got a good one here.
- Corsica-Stickney (Junior) – G-F
- PPG – 19.0, RPG – 10.0, APG – 4.7, SPG – 2.0
- Head Coach – Lorisa Broughton
- Commitment – University of South Dakota
- The Coyotes are getting a game-changer with Avery. Her length and motor on the defensive end allow her to alter shots on every defensive possession and she has a high IQ in positioning and staying out of foul trouble even with her impressive frame and aggressive nature. On the offensive end, she has a diverse skill-set which allows her to operate in any position her team needs. With a large group of contributing Jaguars graduating look for yet another step to be taken by this impressive prospect as she looks to be even more of a focal point for her team on offense and her skill set will be needed on the other end as well as others learn the system around her.
- Aberdeen Roncalli (Senior) – F-C
- PPG – 22.4, RPG – 8.1, APG – 2.0, SPG – 3.0
- Head Coach – Derek Larson
- Commitment – Northern State University
- At 6′ 2″ with an ability to handle the ball, attack the rim, and move well defensively Bragg is an undoubted top prospect headed to the next level. Leading her team to multiple state tournament experiences this athlete has an impressive game on both ends of the floor. She positions herself well defensively in order to guarantee 5-6 forced turnovers or blocked shots per night with her length and anticipation. On the other end, she possesses the ability to score anywhere from at the bucket to 23 feet away. She is a true stretch-post player that creates a matchup nightmare for her opponents each night.
- Viborg/Hurley (Junior) – G-F
- PPG – 15.6, RPG – 7.9, APG – 3.5, SPG – 2.8
- Head Coach – Molly Mason
- Commitment – None
- State champions and Mason is a large reason why. She possesses a great ability to get to the rim with a knack for attacking off the dribble drive and solid footwork to find seams to score. The guard hits big shots and isn’t afraid of the big moment. Mason puts up complete stat lines game after game often scoring 15-20, snagging 7-10 rebounds and dishing out 3-5 assists per contest. This guard has one of the most complete games in her class and brings great energy game in and game out to help better those around her.
- Ethan (Senior) – G
- PPG – 20.2, RPG – 6.5
- Head Coach – Tom Young
- Commitment – None
- This guard is one of the most decorated talents in the state with multiple state tournament experiences and plenty of nights where she put up 18-25 points in a game. She has a true blend of outside shooting ability and moves to finish at the rim. She utilizes a multitude of footwork moves as she approaches defenders to escape defenders and find seams to get to the basket or pull up for a jumper. Hannah has a high IQ for the game, a competitive spirit, and a desire for excellence. She remains one of the most impressive guards with a skill set and the physical attributes necessary for the next level in her sport.
Second Team
Mallory Miller Mallory Miller 6'4" | C Wolsey-Wessington | 2023 State SD- Aberdeen Christian (Junior) – C
- PPG – 19.5, RPG – 13.2, BPG – 3.4
- Head Coach – Michael Rohrbach
- Commitment – None
- A full 6’4″ with college 3-point shooting range Miller is one of the more unique prospects you will find in South Dakota. She has a smooth 3-point shot and with her height, she can get it off whenever she chooses. Pair outside range with a nice variety of post moves and you have a player who can be centered around on the offensive end. On the defensive end, she makes like difficult for her opponents as she blocks over three shots per night plus alters about half of the others with her intimidating presence around the rim.
- Colman-Egan (Senior) – G-F
- PPG – 20.7, RPG – 9.5, SPG – 2.5
- Head Coach – Tyler Husby
- Commitment – None
- Hemmer doesn’t bring the 6’2″ to 6’4″ frame that some of the other unsigned post players around the state do, but at 5’10″, with great athleticism, intense toughness, and a diverse scoring game, she is a fantastic prospect who warrants discussion for basketball at the next level. She helped her team through adversity late in the year when her teammate, the talented Josie Mousel Josie Mousel 6'0" | CG Colman-Egan | 2023 SD went down to injury. Hemmer forged her team forward and kept them competing with great leadership and high-level play when they needed it most. Scoring over 20 points a night and near double-double numbers this young lady went out with a fantastic senior season.
- Bridgewater-Emery (Senior) – G
- PPG – 16.7, RPG – 5.7, SPG – 2.5
- Head Coach – Jessie Yttreness
- Commitment – None
- Weber was a scoring machine over her career as a Huskie. Colleges needing scoring output should be looking here as she remains uncommitted to this point. She has a quick trigger and demonstrates outstanding consistency in hitting shots outside the arc. She is a scrappy defender who has a knack for steals and has the quickness to take them to the other end and finish in transition. A pure shooter she rose up time after time to hit clutch shots to make her team competitive in nearly every contest.
- Aberdeen Roncalli (Senior) – G
- PPG – 12.3, RPG – 4.0
- Head Coach – Derek Larson
- Commitment – Northern State University
- Fiedler will head to Northern State with her teammate Bragg and look to continue her basketball life at the next level. She is a great attacker of the rim and reads defenders well, truly keeping defenses guessing as she hits her own shots as well as creates for her team. She has a nice jump shot with a key release point that allows her to hit even contested shots.
- Red Cloud (Senior) – F/C
- PPG – 14.0, RPG – 5.3
- Head Coach – Lorisa Broughton
- Commitment – None
- Gerlach is a talented guard that remains as a prospect that appears to translate to the next level. She has a great shooting range and is especially adept at knocking down the corner three, a desirable shot in today’s dribble-drive motion offenses. She is an intense defender that moves her feet well and plays with a balance of smarts and aggressiveness. If you value quality shot selection to low turnover ratios look no more as she is the epitome of efficient scoring. The Jaguars are going to miss her leadership and skill set and will look for a multitude of players to fill her impact on both ends of the floor.
- Viborg-Hurley (Junior) – G-F
- PPG – 13.8, RPG – 5.0
- Head Coach – Molly Mason
- Commitment – None
- Mach was a key athlete in the state tournament run by the Cougars. She does just enough of everything to have impressed basketball folks around the state to award her with all-state honors. On the defensive end she’s a great matchup for talented perimeter players with her length and quickness, but can be placed on a post player if necessary as well and hold her own. On offense, she has a great shooting range and a smooth jump shot. Pair this with great court vision and an ability to attack the middle of the floor, draw the defense and step through traffic to finish and you have an immensely talented guard. The dynamic duo of Mach and Mason will be on everyone’s watchlist as we see where they will take their basketball talents after their senior season next year.
Congratulations to the athletes, coaches, and school districts represented on this impressive list.
