The Smoothest – Mirakle Anderson | 5-5 PG | El Paso Lady Hurricanes | 2023 | @JustMirakle
In the Army we had a saying: “Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.” Well, Mirakle ain’t exactly slow, but she definitely does not let the defense speed her up either. She runs the point with a smoothness and deliberateness that you just don’t see from a lot of players these days. You can pressure her all you want, but she is going to get the job done. She is a facilitator who can also score it. She has great handles and a high basketball IQ. Mirakle is a baller, plain and simple.
Best Leader – Kamen Wong | 5-3 PG | Lady Jets 2023 Hackett | 2022 | Hudl
Wong and her Jets squad faced off with last year’s champs in their first match-up and you couldn’t ask for a tougher test. They more than held their own and leading from the front was Wong. She is vocal on defense and a coach on the floor on the offensive end. She hit big shots when needed and showed outstanding speed and handles. She plays very good defense and has a really outstanding all-around game. Talking to her after the game, I found out that she is a senior who would love to play D-III ball if you have a spot on your squad. Trust me, you would not regret giving her the opportunity.
Best Motor – Racie Decker | 5-9 G/F | West Texas Shockers 2023 | 2023 | @05_racie
The name suits her. Racie – and her whole squad – were racing up and down the floor, running the other team ragged. The crazy thing is, they were short-handed and had almost no bench. She never tired and continued to finish well in transition with a nice up and under move. She can shoot it and plays very good on-ball defense with quick feet and good lateral movement. She is a strong, tall forward who can transition through all five spots as needed. Decker is fun to watch and will no doubt be ready to go again on day two!
Best Vision – Galatia Andrew | 5-4 PG | AAO Flight 2023 | 2023 | @GalatiaAndrew
We saw AAO Flight last season on the circuit and they were very, very good, but this season they look like a whole different team in a very good way. It all starts with Galatia at the point. Her vision was unmatched today. Several passes she made in tight windows, no-look, left the scouts around me with their jaws dropped. She can also stroke it from long range. Andrew is incredibly fun to watch and AAO Flight is going to be a major problem on the circuit again this season.
Baller of the Day – Chaniyah Price | 5-6 G | STP Elite 2023 | 2023 | @PriceChaniyah
In these big gyms with a lot of courts, you end up walking up and down the aisle as a parent or spectator to get to the snack bar or restroom. Sometimes you notice, as a scout, that people walking by a court will begin to gather and watch one particular player who has the ball in their hand. Today that player was Chaniyah. She is incredibly quick and her handles are silky smooth. She can fill it up from long range, but better than that, she gets downhill fast and to the rim to finish strong. She has all kinds of moves to finish at the rim and this lefty just gets buckets. If you’re in the building tomorrow, check out an STP Elite game – if not, tune in on Baller TV. You can thank me later.
