During the three-day Sunshine State Showdown held at the Wire Grass Sports Complex in Wesley Chapel. There were over 120 girls’ teams from all over the state of Florida and some teams from out of state. Considered one of the best girls’ events during the AAU travel season. Some of the top elementary and Middle school girls’ players assembled.
Laila Watlington PG 2030 Oakstead Elementary/Outsiders
Watlington, a smooth guard with excellent change of direction and change of speed skills. She showed composure and experience handling the ball, with using both hands, with a nasty cross over. Along with the moves, she showed a high level of basketball IQ, having her head up while dribbling, getting her teammates involved in the game by distributing passes.
Dalayjah Pugh F 2029 Evans Elementary/TNBA
Pugh, a crafty forward that rebounds well, getting body position to get the rebound. She is able to handle the basketball, getting the ball up the floor to start the offense. Pugh has tons of upside, look forward to seeing this kid throughout the summer and at other events.
Caidyn White SG 2029 Outsiders
A taller guard that handles the ball very well. White, has the ability to knock down the outside mid-range jump shot. Very aggressive on the offensive side of the ball, consistently getting to the basket and taking open jump shots. Another threat for the loaded Outsiders team.
Raven Hall PF 2030 CFE
A very good rebounder that has a nose for the basketball. Throughout the event she had many offensive rebounds and put backs. She runs the floor calling for the ball and stretching out the defense. Very aggressive on defense getting many deflections and blocks. Another kid that we can hopefully see throughout the summer and in the coming years.
Tameya Stevens SG 2030 CFE
Stevens is one of the smoothest PG for her age that I have seen. Very crafty young lady that gets to the basket, controls the tempo of the game for her team. Extremely aggressive on defense, causing many deflections, steals and blocked shots. Super high motor, she doesn’t stop moving around.
