Alina Martin 2024 5’7 Flower Mound Marcus High School, TX (AE Black 2023)
Alina is a special slasher who can get to the rim at will, with and without the basketball. Her off-ball movement creates space for her time after time, and she was great at sealing off her opponent deep in the paint. In the paint, she is a patient finisher who has the ability to use post moves to catch her opponent off guard. Even after flashing quickly to the restricted area, she calmly uses an up fake and send her opponent into the help defender and then spins around to finish on the other side of the rim. Martin also makes good reads when handling the ball in the full court, she routinely found teammates that were streaking to the rim. She also never seemed to over dribble the ball, she always made the right decisions in the half and full court to set up her teammates for an even better shot opportunity. I would like to see her get more aggressive with hunting her shot off the dribble from the midrange. As she continues to stretch the floor, her ability to consistently score in the lane will become even easier.
Taylor Spencer 2024 5’7 Cleveland High School, TX (Houston Lady Nets 2024)
Taylor is a skilled combo guard who is able to play off the ball, while also affecting the game on the defensive end of the court. She is great on the defensive side of the ball, where she takes pride in picking apart her opponents with her intense on ball defense. Her aggressiveness on that end of the floor allowed her to come up with takeaways and run on the fast break. In the full court, she is good at getting to the rim and using her end to end speed to beat her opponents to the rim. She really stood out through her ability to read and steal passes in the passing lane and finishing in the paint on the other end.
Grace Booth Grace Booth 5'10" | SG Glen Rose | 2024 State TX 2024 5’11 Hico High School, TX (West Texas Shockers 2024)
Grace is an elite combo guard who showed an ability to finish through contact at the rim, create looks for her teammates within the half court and even stretch the floor off the dribble. She has great size for a point guard, and loves to use it to her advantage after taking her opponent off the bounce. She lived in the paint all day, if she created a glimmer of separation she slipped through it to get into the lane. I was very impressed with her aggressiveness and ability to create space with and without the basketball.
She was willing to move without the ball and cut to the basket, but her true prowess lies in her ability to create with a live dribble. She created countless looks for her teammates, and her passes were always in the right spot to allow her teammates to quickly get a shot off. She got her bigs involved and found them on numerous dump off passes for effortless looks in the paint, but also found her shooters in the corner when the defense collapsed on them. Her calmness and decision making with the basketball was truly on display and I was very impressed with her overall feel for the game.
Kenzi Shipman Kenzi Shipman 5'4" | CG Southmoore | 2024 State OK 2024 5’6 Southmoore High School, OK (Oklahoma Aces 2024 Vick)
Kenzi is a skilled guard who knows how to create space on the perimeter and get into the paint. She has creative crossover moves, which froze her defenders and got downhill with ease. When she was able to get two feet into the paint, she showed a dynamic ability to finish in the lane. She smoothly maneuvered around her opponents and was calm when she was trying to get her defenders off balance in the paint. She was patient and knew when she had her opponent on her back that she seemingly had all the time in the world to finish at the rim.
Fia Filoialii 2024 5’11 James E. Taylor High School, TX (Texas Cagers Select 2024)
Fia is a dynamic point forward with some real size who reads the game and sees the floor like a point guard, yet finishes in the paint like a forward. She is good out of the triple threat, but truly thrives in the full court when she is able to get a full head of steam and get into the paint. She has the ability to snatch a rebound off the glass and go coast to coast and make the right lead pass to a streaking teammate or a dump off pass after she has drawn the last defender. I was very impressed with her handle in the full court, she dominated her defenders in the open court and finished at the rim at will.
She is able to play outside-in, and dance around her defender to get into the paint or play inside-out and work from the mid post or on the block. I was very impressed with her natural forward like control in the post, and her ability to move without the basketball. She flashed to the high post or the paint for easy looks and always seemed to be in the right spot for a dump off pass for a teammate who was in trouble. Her ability to truly do it all allows her to play alongside another big due to her ability to find space seemingly anywhere on the floor. I was very impressed with her poise and maturity with the basketball and her ability to make something out of nothing.
