The PGH Circuit consists of 4 different regions, and they come together during the Live Periods to compete against each other. This event displayed a lot of talent from the Midwest, but we also had teams from Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Alabama, Florida, and more. As I cover the Triumph Region (Southeast), I wanted to showcase the two 2023 programs we had in the building: Alabama Twisters Elite and Candace Parker Hoop Dreams Elite. Here were some of the 2023’s who stood out to me:
Milan Santos Milan Santos 5'3" | PG Colonial HS | 2023 State FL | Candace Parker Hoop Dreams Elite
Milan is a straight dawg out there on the court on both ends. She’s a high motor kid with a lot of speed that frustrates whatever team she’s playing against. Her handles and ability to lead the offense are huge when it comes to being a PG, but she can also score it from all three levels with a pretty stroke and crafty finishes at the bucket. If she’s going downhill, good luck stopping her!
Hannah Kohn Hannah Kohn 5'9" | CG Hagerty | 2023 State FL | Candace Parker Hoop Dreams Elite
I can’t tell you how many times someone came up to me and said something about Hannah’s ability to shoot the rock or ask if she was “that girl” who hit 19 three’s in a game this year. All weekend, she showed how she could go off from behind the arc with a quick release that she could get off with barely any space needed. I’m very impressed with her mid-range game, ability to finish inside, and how tough of a defender she can be, too. Another 2023 on this squad that will make a college coach happy!
Nailah Mayes Nailah Mayes 5'9" | C Minor | 2023 State AL | Alabama Twisters Elite
Nailah is very strong forward that finished through every little bit of contact this weekend. She plays physical by using her body on both sides of the ball and cleaned up the glass in every game I watched. There were no issues from her when banging down low with taller defenders.
Ashaunte Monday Ashaunte Monday 5'6" | PG Pleasant Grove | 2023 State AL | Alabama Twisters Elite
Ashaunte was one of the smoothest point guards I saw all weekend at 5’5. She had some elite handles with speed that allowed her to create for her team. I saw a couple no look and behind the back passes that were very flashy and showed her court vision was high level.
Ella Ortman Ella Ortman 5'7" | CG Providence Of Jacksonville | 2023 State FL | Candace Parker Hoop Dreams Elite
Ella made big time plays in big situations the entire weekend. She hit some huge shots from deep and did a good job of taking care of the ball with some smart decision making. This team is guard heavy, and Ella was one of the best in her ability to be a leader on the floor and control the pace. She’s a poised floor general that will do well at the next level.
Zoe Tennell Zoe Tennell 5'8" | CG The Villages | 2023 State FL | Candace Parker Hoop Dreams Elite
Zoe had a similar frame as Nailah Mayes Nailah Mayes 5'9" | C Minor | 2023 State AL , but she can do more things that a guard can. She is strong and uses that to bruise inside with anyone in the paint with a knack for finishing at the rim. I liked her mid-range shooting and her effort on the defensive end as well.
Madelyn Leslie Madelyn Leslie 5'10" | SG Gulf Coast | 2023 State FL | Candace Parker Hoop Dreams Elite
Maddie got to head back to the Midwest and play some basketball where she learned the game originally. The Tampa commit did a good job of stretching the floor and working hard on both ends. She knows the game and can hit it from anywhere on the floor. If there is a loose ball or a rebound in the air, look for her to get it or be in the picture somehow.
The Triumph Region of the PGH Circuit will head to Nashville for the Music City Showdown next weekend.
