For the games I saw on Sunday, here are some of the top 17U performers on the day.
Allison Hampel, 5-11 2023, Wisconsin Fuel
Wow this kid completely caught my eye with her complete game and work ethic. She really can play anywhere on the court, has good enough handles to run the show, passes the ball well and can put the ball on the court and get to the rim. She can push tempo and when she is in the paint, she possesses good moves around the basket and has good hands to rebound. Defensively she can block or alter shots.
Brook Simpson, 5-10 2024, UTS Lady Elite 2023
One of the youngest players on her team, but the sophomore showed she has a mature game and can play with the more experienced players. I love her positive swag and showed a good perimeter game, can distribute the ball well and moves and creates. She is long and athletic and able to use her size to disrupt the smaller point guards.
Rachel Zacks, 5-9 2023, Full Package 2
Caught her game today and I am glad I did. She immediately showed me good body control when she gets to the rim. Able to penetrate and score, or showed a strength of scoring from behind the arc with good three-point range. Able to create for her team well, like having another coach on the court. Another year to continue to improve, look for her game to improve this spring.
Lilly Toppen, 5-9 2023, IN Showcase 2023 Select
Lilly has good size for her to be able to create for her team. She is solid from the perimeter showing a good smooth shot with a quick release. She has long arms enabling her to defend well on the perimeter, is athletic to be able to guard most any position and plays steady defense.
Rachael Keenan, 5-9 2028, M.A.D.E. Athletes Canada 2026
I am stepping away from my 17U 2023 group that I watched all weekend to focus one of the best younger players from the weekend among my Day 2 Standouts. Rachael is a 2028 (6th grader) playing up two years for her team from Canada, and she was very impressive playing in the 2026 game. She moved well and showed a very poised game for her age. Good. moves to the rim with good body control, able to defend, Her ceiling is very open. Haleigh will be doing a story on this team later in the week.
