The annual Western PA Bruins Tipoff will take place at the convention center starting Friday, and 286 teams will be present over three days to put their talent on display. Prep Girls Hoops will be there with 3 of us covering some of the action, and while we will not get to see everyone, we will be looking to bring to you many of the players we see perform well over the weekend.
Director and organizer John Tate is hosting this event for the ninth year.
“We are excited, we grew it from 33 gleans and we were excited about that. Then got to 100 and 200. We moved it to the convention center last year with 220 after covid.”
Teams to watch in the 11th grade division are WVa Thunder, FBC from Atlanta, Takeover (DC), Team Durant (DMV), Exodus (NY), IGB (IN), WPa Bruins, MBA (Mich), New Heights (NY), Dayton Lady Hoopstars. “People are coming to get 4 good games, not playing for a title, 4 competitive games. We have some monster matchups,” Tate said.
The 10th grade division is loaded with many of the top older players across the country, and the next level talent will be incredible. Philly Rise, FBC, WVa Thunder, MBA, Team Curry (NC),
9th grade teams to watch include WVa Thunder, WPa Bruins, Exodus, Team Takeover, Team Durant, Team Curry, New Heights, Always 100 (Ind), Boo Williams (Va).
8th grade key teams are Team Takeover, Cincy Angels, DLH, Always 100
