Monday May 2nd, 2022 at Sandia High School, Chuck Giddings a local basketball coach and parent organized a girls basketball camp for the community. This event was called "An Epic Night Of Basketball Training". This training was a two-hour event from 7:00-9:00 pm. Chuck has seven years of coaching experience and coaches the NM Lady Dogs JV/Varsity players. His reason for organizing this event was to help the girls basketball community and believes the attention for girls hoops is going up again. Chuck was successful in getting support from some of the most Elite trainers in New Mexico. (Natalie Zamora, Jamal Fenton, J.R. Giddens and J.Hill). Without the help of all these individuals, this training wouldn’t have been possible.
This event had as many as 40 players show up to the camp of various ages and classes. During the training, the trainers worked with the players on fundamentals, conditioning, dribbling and various techniques on their games. Each player got the opportunity to work in pairs, groups and different stations throughout the night. Each player also was able to spend some time with each trainer to receive different advice and wisdom from their different backgrounds. There was a few players who stood out among the whole training session.
[player_tooltip player_id="370329" first="Bella" last="Hines"] from the Class of 2025 was one of the leaders in this training clinic and was picked by several trainers to showcase a drill to the entire group. After a conditioning drill, she made two clutch free throws so the group didn't have to keep running. Bella was locked in during this entire event and had one of the best showings from this training session.
[player_tooltip player_id="391109" first="Audriana" last="Wright"] was also one of the leaders in this training like [player_tooltip player_id="370329" first="Bella" last="Hines"]. After the completion of each drill, Audri would often be the first in line to start the next drill and be a player the trainers used for an example. She had a great training session and was one of the top performers of the night.
[player_tooltip player_id="391104" first="Hope" last="Giddings"] from Sandia High School took advantage of this training clinic and it paid off. Like many players, [player_tooltip player_id="391104" first="Hope" last="Giddings"] was locked in and in the zone all night. She was encouraging to many of the younger players and led by example in this training. Hope was often one of the first in line and was picked by the trainers often throughout the night.
Freshman [player_tooltip player_id="391323" first="Mila" last="Espinoza"] won the State Championship with the Volcano Vista Hawks this past March but has taken no days off during the off-season. Mila was one of the first players you would notice from this training clinic and made her presence known. She was great during various stations and paired up with [player_tooltip player_id="391103" first="Sydney" last="Benally"] on multiple drills.
[player_tooltip player_id="391103" first="Sydney" last="Benally"] is one of the top players in New Mexico and she played every bit of that during this training clinic. She had multiple teammates and player from her 2025 Class participate from this clinic and hold her own with everyone. Sydney was one of the most locked in players from this clinic and that was contagious to players around her. Sydney’s basketball IQ separates her from other players and followed everything the trainers told her all night.
[player_tooltip player_id="391174" first="Alyssa" last="Vigil"] from Hope Christian received much attention during the training clinic. She was definitely one of the top players with her ball handling, finishing around the basket and overall during that night. Alyssa is a athletic wing player that was able to perform every drill and station at an elite level. She was one of the most fun to watch during the training.
Chloe Brown was among one of the youngest of the players at this training but held her own among some of the top players at this clinic. She was able to complete and finish everything she was asked of doing at every drill and station. She often paired up with [player_tooltip player_id="370329" first="Bella" last="Hines"] throughout the night and ended the night as one of the best performers of the clinic.
