The 2025 class is LOADED with talent and I expect to see some shifting around, including these 5 young ladies vaulting up the list as we conclude AAU ball later this summer and get into the next basketball season.
Althea Gust Althea Gust 5'10" | SG Centerville | 2025 State SD – G/F – 5’9″
Hometown Team – Centerville
AAUTeam – Pentagon Schoolers-Frederick
Gust is a DEADLY shooter from downtown. She has improved her footwork and has been working this summer on getting her shot off quicker, and it is showing. Attacking the basket with a variety of moves is another addition for this guard as she is getting better all the time. Defensively she is one of the best prospects in her class. Last season as a freshman she nearly always guarded the other team’s best. Currently ranked number 40 I expect this young lady to vault into the top 10 if not the top 5 by the end of the summer.
Emma Marshall Emma Marshall 5'10" | SF Centerville | 2025 State SD – G/F – 5’8″
Hometown Team – Irene/Wakonda
AAUTeam – Pentagon Schoolers-Frederick
Marshall has incredible athletic ability. She’s a defensive nightmare for her opponents as she has incredible hops, phenomenal length, and explosive footwork to beat you to your spots. On offense, she has a nice jump shot and is developing her outside shooting consistency. She’s a great rebounder and works her tail off for her team. Currently ranked number 34 I expect this young lady to work her way into the top 20 by the end of the summer, and if she develops a consistent 3-point shot, I wouldn’t count her out of my top 10.
Keyra Kruse Keyra Kruse 6'0" | C Sioux Valley | 2025 State SD – F/C – 6’0″
Hometown Team – Sioux Valley
AAUTeam – Network
Kruse is an intriguing prospect at 6’0″, high basketball IQ, and a developing outside shooting game. She possesses all the tools to be a true stretch-type post player who is athletic enough and shoots it well enough to be relevant on all levels of the game. A tough rebounder and shot disrupting length help her to be a valuable asset on the defensive end. Her offensive confidence has improved a ton over the last couple of years and she is only getting better on that end. Currently ranked number 30 as one of the true centers in this class I expect her to climb the leaderboard quickly.
Ashley Brewer Ashley Brewer 5'10" | SF Elk Point-Jefferson | 2025 State SD – G/F – 5’10″
Hometown Team – Elk Point/Jefferson
AAUTeam – United Sports Academy – 2025 White
Brewer is a great outside shooter with a high basketball IQ. Standing at 5’10″ with a guard skillset this young lady has a lot to be excited about. She has a great motor and does a lot of little things for her team with heart and hustle. Continuing to develop her offensive aggression and building consistency in varying her finishes at the rim will complete her offensive game as she is already consistent from beyond the arc. Look for her to be a leader on the EPJ group and continue to improve. I expect her to crack the top 10 moving out of her current number 18 spot.
Maya Nelson Maya Nelson 5'5" | CG Sioux Falls Christian | 2025 State SD – G/F – 5’8″
Hometown Team – Sioux Falls Christian
AAUTeam – Pentagon Schoolers-Frederick
The Schoolers 15U team is loaded with talent and guided under the direction of highly successful coach Lynn Frederick. This makes for a ton of talented prospects who I expect to vault their way towards the top of the 2025 leaderboard. Nelson is not going to be on your favorites list if you want flashy and high output, BUT don’t sleep on this immensely talented athlete who thrives on consistency and helping her team find ways to win. She is a complete player who can hit the three, make smart cuts to score, distribute to her teammates, and attack the rim. Maya is a fierce competitor with one of the greatest supportive mentalities in the state of South Dakota. She is the epitome of a good teammate and I for one expect her to move from her current spot at 49 all the way into the top 20.
