The forwards and centers that played at Spooky Nook played as if this was their last time getting out there on the court, which is how it should always be! Here are four of them that made an impact in every game they played.
[player_tooltip player_id="422141" first="Makana" last="Gardner"] ‘24 | Elmira | 6’3” | PF
Gardner has mastered the drop step and playing defense against her is never easy. She looks as if she has the ability to just go right through people when she plays but really she is just amazing at playing through contact. Anytime a shot goes up Gardner is going to put a body on someone. She will box you out, take you right out of the play, grab the rebound and come down with her elbows out and her head up looking for her guards or someone running the floor.
[player_tooltip player_id="416298" first="Meghan" last="Anderson"] ‘23 | LI Lightning | 6’1” | SF
Anderson is a small forward who can and will bring the ball up the court, be involved in the press break and move the ball around. She was their leader that controlled the game along with the tempo and the flow. I love that Anderson is such an active, athletic forward that can be put in different positions and asked to do different roles but not ask questions and still be successful and complete the task. She is a team player that just enjoys the game and wants to see herself and her teammates succeed.
[player_tooltip player_id="184116" first="Lizzy" last="Gruber"] ‘23 | Maine Attraction | 6’4” | SF
Gruber is an unstoppable forward on both ends of the floor. She is in such great shape which makes it so easy for her to shut people down on the defensive end and grab every board and then run the floor and finish the contested layup on the offensive end. I had never seen a forward talk out on the court as much as Gruber did, especially on defense. She helps everyone else on her team so much the way she is always communicating and letting her guards know what is happening from the back. She is easy to play with as she sticks to the fundamentals and is a team player.
[player_tooltip player_id="184004" first="Anna" last="Foley"] ‘23 | Evolution | 6’3” | PF
Foley was playing in the first game I watched at Spooky Nook and she set the bar pretty high for the rest of the forwards. She is a smart power forward that uses her height to her advantage, as she should. She keeps the ball up high, goes to triple threat and dribbles with force whenever she puts the ball on the floor. Foley is a very forceful player you can't help but love watching.
