Continue ReadingThe Main Event tournament in Benton was a highly competitive gathering of some of the top players from several states including Arkansas. I’ve highlighted a few Class Of 2023 standouts that made a huge impact on the court;
Sara Crowe-Arkansas Mavericks-Sellars, 6’2” PF, Mammoth Springs HS-Sara’s strength is best from 15 feet and in, near the basket. She moves very well without the ball and has the capability of getting open on every possession for a high percentage shot. Sara is an intimidating force on defense and can block shots effectively. She will be a big part of Mammoth Springs deep playoff run next school season.
Chelsea Hamilton-Arkansas Mavericks-Sellers, 5’7” SG, Salem HS-Chelsea has a very high basketball IQ. She has great court vision and anticipation skills. Very quick and decisive with the rock, she can shoot the three or drive to dish to a teammate. Look for Chelsea to be the team leader for Salem next season.
Silondra Ingraham-Arkansas Sting Green, 5’9” SG, Little Rock Central HS-Silondra plays hard all of the time. She can play facing the basket or go down low to post up because of her excellent footwork. She glides and is going much faster than it appears. Silondra has no problem diving to the floor for those 50/50 loose balls to gain another possession for her team. Proficient with both hands, she can create a shot when her team needs it. Silondra is one of the top players in the Little Rock area.
Kaylee Love-Arkansas Mavericks Sellers, 5’11” C, Melbourne HS-Kaylee is long with a distinct reach advantage. She has good rebounding skills and can successfully post up against most other centers. If she can get the first step with her dominant hand it’s an automatic basket or free throws on the offensive end. Defensively her footwork is excellent, especially in a zone because of her length. Kaylee will play a major role in Melbourne High School success next season.
Kayla Newson-Arkansas Sting Green, 5’5” PG, Osceola HS-Kayla is a scorer. She can create a shot on any possession. She is a natural leader and at crunch time can make things happen. She has an efficient field goal percentage and is an excellent free throw shooter. Kayla is very quick, especially on her strong side, but will show the other hand to keep the defense honest. Look for Kayla to lead Osceola HS to a successful season in her senior year.
Courtney Savell-Arkansas Sting Green, 6’0” SG, Savell Home School/Sylvan Hills-Courtney is an excellent catch-and-shoot three-point artist. She finds a way to get open and can fire the 3 very quickly. Also, she is a very good rebounder, especially on the defensive side. Her spacing is good and she understands the logic of spreading out the defense to create a high percentage shot. Courtney is a mismatch nightmare for opposing teams.
That concludes my 2023 class of exceptional players. Next up, I’ll highlight the 2024 class of The Main Event in Benton.
