Hundreds of teams have converged on the Atlantic City Convention Center for the AC Showcase and we’ve gotten a chance to see some fantastic New Jersey prospects and programs. One of those is NJ Shoreshots, a well-known AAU program in the state, who had a number of teams down in AC. Here’s a quick look at some of the U17 Chambers team from Shoreshots.
Angelina Banas - 6-0 PF/C, Notre Dame (2023)
Banas is a player we’ve been tracking for quite some time now and for good reason. Watching her play, we’ve seen great improvement in her mobility and rebounding on the defensive end. It’s made her a more versatile and agile player, something Notre Dame has been looking for. Additionally, Banas is someone that can score in bunches and her high school numbers show that, steadily increasing over her last three years. This summer and fall is going to be massive for her continued success on the floor.
Angelina Dragone - 6-1 C/PF, Our Lady of Mercy (2023)
What great strides Dragone has made in her game over the last three years and heading into the summer, it was building off those gradual improvements. She’s definitely shown to be a more aggressive player, a more fundamentally sound player and someone who’s grown in maturity immensely. Her defense has turned a corner, getting better in a quick manner. This rise in her play is something that’s been expected and anticipated for some time now. She’s utilizing her height to her advantage, wreaking havoc on opponents as a result.
[player_tooltip player_id="321568" first="Kayla" last="McCrea"] - 5-7 SG/PG, Allentown (2023)
McCrea is everything you look for in a scorer and then some, but she’s taken more of a back seat when it comes to scoring in order to improve other parts of her game. Where she might have taken a slight step back with her scoring, she’s made up for with improved defense, more passing and a more aggressive approach on defense. That’s been something much more welcomed in high school and AAU, to have a player who can fill out the stat sheet and become multi-dimensional. Those small adjustments make all of the difference at the end of the day.
Josie Munson - 5-11 SG/SF, Red Bank Regional (2023)
Munson went under-the-radar, having only played 11 games this season, all of them coming in February. However, she was beyond effective and quite the overall inside scorer for RBR, which is something we’ve seen transition well into the AAU season. Munson is aggressive and attacks the rim with ferocity and finesse. She’s great at finishing at the basket and welcoming contact at the same time. Not only does she still finish strong, but that contact gets her to the foul line, where she’s a great foul shooter. It the recipe to success for Munson and when it’s working, it’s unstoppable.
