McEachern High School and Osborne High School are host sites for Prep Girls Hoops’ Peach Games. Throughout the event, several states’ teams were represented – including those from home state Georgia as well as South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama and Florida.
The first day may have been abbreviated but it was no less exciting with big performances from many of those who made the trip to Atlanta. Here is who stood out on day one.
Jayla Bennett Jayla Bennett 5'3" | PG Grayson | 2025 State GA – 2024 – Grayson HS – FBC Legacy 2024 – Bennett remains in it to win it – and her Rams team did plenty of winning in 2021-22 as Grayson concluded its season with a 22-6 record and a 7-1 mark in Region 4-7A. While Grayson can put her fair share of two-point shots on the board, she also knows how to get the job done from behind the 3-point line. A combo guard who is listed at 5-foot-5, she is a fearless attacker of the rim and has no issues weaving her way through defenders en route to the rack. Bennett throws defenders off balance with how she can fake a 3-point try to opt to drive to the rim. She scored 11 points to lead her team to a win on Friday night over Team Hickory 2024.
Laken Powe Laken Powe 5'11" | PF Hickory | 2024 State NC – 2024 – Hickory HS – Team Hickory 2024 – It is only appropriate that the school called Hickory has the most representatives on a team called Hickory. With what she can do as a scorer and a rebounder, Powe is a consistent double-double threat on a game by game basis. She is listed at 5-foot-11 and presents a formidable paint presence. That is the case for her offense as well as her defense with her ability to come away with steals and block shots. Powe began her Peach Games in Atlanta on the right foot as she scored 10 points to lead her team in a matchup with FBC Legacy 2024.
Toccara Stagnaro – 2025 – Westlake HS – Bounce Nation FBC Meg 2023 – Stagnaro is one of several 2025s on this year’s Bounce Nation FBC Meg 2023 team. She will put herself in position to corral rebounds and is not afraid of contact which can send her to the free throw line. Stagnaro can display impressive ball handling skills and can get crafty with how she manages to finish at the rim. She is also a ball hawk who can make things uncomfortable for opposing ball handlers. Stagnaro scored 17 points to get her Peach Games started on the right foot in a Friday evening contest with Team Nite Nite 2023 at McEachern High School.
Destiny Givens – 2024 – Westlake HS – Bounce Nation FBC Meg 2023 – The Westlake contingency for Bounce Nation FBC Meg 2023 did itself good on Friday night between Stagnaro and the 2024 Givens. She will take tough shots and convert those into strong finishes at the rim. At times, she will get fouled which will give her opportunities at old-fashioned 3-point plays. Givens will help out on double-teams, can be an at-will scorer, will use the glass to her advantage and plays with an all-around fearless attitude. She had 17 points in her team’s matchup with Team Nite Nite 2023 at McEachern High School on Friday.
Amaya Broadus – 2024 – Therrell HS – Team Nite Nite 2023 – Broadus’ team was among the many that stood out a few weeks ago at Knoxville Knockout in Tennessee. She usually has big games when she steps on the court and Friday’s matchup with Bounce Nation FBC Meg 2023 was no exception. She operates well within the flow of an offense and has an overall fearless attitude towards the game. Broadus has no problems attempting tough shots, plays with a high basketball IQ, can make things happen near the rim and will hit her free throws after she gets fouled. She had 15 points in Friday’s win over Bounce Nation FBC Meg 2023.
Paige Whitted Paige Whitted 5'9" | CG Briarcrest | 2025 State TN – 2025 – Collierville HS – Team Nite Nite 2023 – Whitted is playing up two classes – a sign of how she is skilled beyond her years. One element of her game that has helped her is her 3-point shooting. She scored 11 points in the 54-44 win over Bounce Nation FBC Meg 2023 on Friday night and nine of those points came via the 3-pointer. Whitted is also one who will draw contact which can place her at the free throw line for extra points. She is taller than one’s conventional point guard. A “just getting started” kind of baller, she is one to keep note of when mentioning Tennessee’s robust youth movement in the girls game.
Kennedi McCray – 2023 – Pleasant Grove HS – Alabama Twisters Elite 2023 – We at Prep Girls Hoops have become very used to seeing Alabama Twisters Elite 2023 between their Knoxville Knockout, Exclusive and Music City Showcase appearances. McCray is listed at 5-foot-6 and can recover quickly in case of a slight miscue. She will also turn an opposing ball carrier’s miscues into steals that can go the other way. McCray will also get out in transition and make plays in that area of the game as well as knock down shots from deep. McCray led Alabama Twisters Elite 2023 with 12 points in a 37-31 hard-fought win over WR All-Stars 2023.
