FIRST TEAM
Brenna Johnson – forward, Swarm 2026 (Westwood, IA)
I think the lengthy forward from Sloan, Iowa just south of Sioux City (top photo), may have been our favorite player of the weekend in Omaha. Obviously, at about 6 feet tall, Brenna’s size caught our attention as did her impressive wingspan. It was her passion for the game that really stood out though. She’s full of energy, communicates very well, and is a team-first competitor. She’s also got skills and a high motor, nice court vision and passing ability, and a high basketball IQ. She wasn’t afraid to mix it up inside. When she fills out Johnson is going to be a force against players of all sizes and descriptions.
Betsy Gillette – guard, Air Minnesota 2026 (Hayfield, MN)
When we saw Betsy a play a couple of weeks ago in Forest Lake, she immediately caught our attention because of her size (5’10ish) and physique, both of which are impressive for an 8th grader. After that it was her skill set – the ball-handling, shooting and one-on-one capabilities – that drew our notice. Overall, however, Betsy’s physical toughness and on-court maturity is what sets her apart. She gets down to business as soon as the game tips off and she stays dialed in until the final whistle. Betsy has been lighting it up at age level in Southern Minnesota. We suspect she’ll do the same on varsity real soon.
Lexi Cooley – guard, Kansas Elite Red 2026 (Olathe West, KS)
For pure entertainment value it’s hard to beat what Lexi delivered in Omaha. Her ability to turn on the jets and blow past defenders was fun to watch as was her high-level ball-handling ability and the way she could thread the needle on key passes while operating under defensive pressure. The 5’5 guard from Kansas City seems to be everywhere at once and impacts the game in many different ways as a result. She’s very smart, super fast, plays the game at a rapid pace, and has confidence to spare. She also scores incredibly high on the hustle meter!
Jensyn Storhoff – guard, Air Minnesota 2026 (Lanesboro, MN)
Like Gillette, Storhoff is just waiting to bust loose on the Southern Minnesota basketball scene for the Burros from Lanesboro. Jensyn is just 5’5 but she is solidly put together and she’s not afraid to bang with anyone who crosses her path. She’s got quick feet, speed in the open court, and the ability to make decisions and take action at a high tempo. She, too, is all business on the court, playing with a high degree of intensity and focus that belies her age. Storhoff plays basketball, volleyball and softball, so there’s no telling where her focus will be long term. She’s got a bright future in basketball if that’s her chosen direction.
Laila Johnson-Berndt – guard, Kansas Elite Red 2026 (Olathe North, KS)
When watching Kansas Elite play I found myself continually going back to the roster to see who #21 was. The longer I watched her play, the more I liked Laila’s game and at some point early in the second half I figured I should take some more detailed notes. By the time the weekend was done I had seen Johnson-Berndt play three games and every time she offered a little bit more. She’s athletic, has nice movement, plays at a high tempo and she’s got a little bounce to her game. She’s also highly focused and dialed in on defense. At 5’7 with a solid frame, Laila has all the ingredients to make a significant impact and that’s exactly what she did in Omaha.
SECOND TEAM
Lyric Judson – wing, Team Factory 2027 I
Addison Medeck – forward, Team Factory 2027 I
Kylie Bachali – guard, KC Royalty 2027
Kadyn Volkert – guard, Swarm 2026
Lalie Scaccio – guard, Air Minnesota 2026
