Over the next few days, our team at Prep Girls Hoops will take a look at some of the ones who caught our eye with some outstanding play, not only scoring, but defense, rebounding and great hustle play.
Here are some of the players from Day 1 who caught my attention. Several more players from today and tomorrow will be written about including the all-tournament teams and the new faces on the scene.
Jim’s Day 1 Standouts
Alilyanna Jordan, OV Lady Dragons 2023 Black
Showed good footwork as she worked around the rim and was able to draw defenders, play through contact and get to the line. She is a good rebounder, possesses good handles in transition and can rebound in traffic. Love her athleticism and ability to take over a game. (pictured left)
Taylor Maddox, OV Lady Dragons 2023 Red
Taylor (feature photo above) move around the court well without the ball, and she has a good perimeter game from the guard spot. She showed some good vocal leadership and was active on the court. Not afraid to take the ball to the rim, has a good floater and played with a good composure during the game.
Rachel Smith, Kentucky Ice 2023
One thing I liked about Rachel is her swagger and demeanor on the court. She was looking to get to the right spots and had a good perimeter game. Rachel has a good basketball court IQ and showed some leadership skills from her position Can push the ball in transition.
Autumn Rucker, IN Showcase 2023 Black
The team went 1-1 on the day, and Autumn (pictured left) was a bright spot to me in their morning loss. She showed excellent court vision and was creative on the court for her team. Distributed the ball well to her teammates. Did a solid job crashing the boards well and can play good on-ball defense. Has a good euro and good footwork in the paint.
Jackie Crews, IN Flight Sharks 2023
Is a player who showed the she can create contact and get to the line and is a strong, physical player with the ball. She anticipates well on the defensive side of the ball, can play solid on and off-ball defense. Good handles and a smart player looking to make her team better.
Gabrielle Piepho, TC Elite 2024
A point guard with excellent court vision, her coach had high praises to say about her before her game. She does a great job being able to handle the press and can really break it by herself. She makes others better and continues to work to become a better player.
