I’m going to kick off this superlative series with the top shooters from the weekend. So without further ado, here are the shooters that really stood out to me in the 16U division.
Regan Canada | 5’6″ | Class of 2024 | IN Showcase 2024 Black
Canada can really shoot the ball and she was so consistent all weekend long. She’s got great form, a quick release, deep range, and she catches ready to fire. On the last day of the tournament, Canada nailed a clutch 3 to put her team up 1 with about 20 seconds remaining in the game. Her team ended up getting beat on a buzzer beater, but that didn’t slow down Canada’s hot shooting. In the game immediately after, she continued to knock down shots with ease.
Allison Spieker Allison Spieker 5'8" | SG Whitefield Academy | 2024 State KY | 5’7″ | Class of 2024 | Kentucky ICE 2024
Spieker can light it up from the 3-point line. The lefty has a pure stroke and if you give her an inch, you’re giving her enough room to knock it in. She does a great job of moving on the offensive end, so that the defense loses track of her and it results in a lot of clean looks. She also can pull-up off of the dribble, so you really have to work defensively if you’re going to try to stop Spieker.
Paige Medley Paige Medley 5'5" | PG Meade County | 2024 State KY | 5’4″ | Class of 2024 | Team Firstep 2024
Medley also has excellent range on her shot and can knock down multiple 3’s in any given game. She has excellent speed and quickness. She can shoot it off of the catch or dribble. She can also go straight from a cut into her shot on the outside. Great footwork.
Denell Jacobs | 5’5″ | Class of 2026 | Lady Team Teague 2024 Majors
Jacobs was one of the youngest players in the 16U division, but that didn’t stop her from knocking down the deep ball. She catches it ready to shoot and she just lets it fly. There was a stretch where she nailed a couple of 3’s, got a break, and when she came back in, she continued right where she left off knocking down even more triples.
Macie Sanders | 5’7″ | Class of 2024 | OV Lady Dragons 2024 Red
Sanders probably hears “get out on the shooter” a lot because she’s got a great shot and she can really stretch the defense with the range on her shot. The way she can catch off of the move, dribble, or catch is impressive, but she also does a great job of utilizing shot fakes to get into the paint or to the rim rather than simply relying on her outside shot.
Amber Brandon Amber Brandon 5'11" | SF Paul Laurence Dunbar | 2024 State KY | 5’11″ | Class of 2024 | OTP 2024 Owsley
Brandon’s shot looks like it comes so naturally to her. She has great form, great footwork, and she really challenges the defense. She can shoot with a hand in her face and she can get her shot off so quickly, but she also makes herself a scoring threat outside of her shooting ability. On top of her sharpshooting, Brandon has great length and speed.
