The Houston Queens are always bringing the heat, their intensity on all of the teams reminds me of back in the day, one of their players dropped 30 in a game, and another, Tortorici, has the right name because she was TORCHING the nets and dropped a game-winner in front of me but one more time, talent is everywhere and here are some other names I probably misspelled that stood out
MARISSA ORTIZ
Mikayla Ford (Madisonville HS) D1 Solid
Ford has always been a smooth scorer, she understands her role and plays it to a tee, yet scoring in the flow is only one of the things that she brings to the table, she also does a good job rebounding against taller players as well as defending but her court vision is one of the major improvements as well as ballhandling and finishing with contact
Marissa Ortiz (Southside HS) SA Vipers
Ortiz showed me a little razzle-dazzle on opening day and still had my head spinning at the variety of ways she handled the ball both in the open court as well as in the set. Her HEZ and crossover are smooth and consistent as well as her jumper which she creates under pressure but her ability to “catch and shoot” with accuracy JUST DID IT for me
Arianna Rodriguez- SA Lady Hoops
Rodriguez is one of the countless long ball shooters in the San Antonio Lady Hoops organization, they’ve had them for, well ever but I really enjoy watching her create her shot under pressure as well as just take over offensively, especially in the clutch because I have seen her turn a double-digit deficit into a double-digit lead and as you try to do the math, 8 long ones in a row one game. I also enjoy her attacking off the dribble as well as her court vision plus, she’s playing the passing lane very well
Ava Fernandez (Winston Churchill) Next Level
Fernandez was one of the countless pleasant surprises I hadn’t seen or seen enough of and she to is a knockdown shooter. Her pull-up jumper in transition is smooth and consistent, and her mid to long-range is solid but she also attacks strongly off the dribble to either score or dish, yes, she sees the floor as well as applies good pressure “on the ball” to defend
Bryanna Stokes (Navasota HS) D1 Solid
Stokes was stroking it at the Sam Houston camp on day 1 yet she saved something to close out the TJ Showcase with her squad. I have been watching her for what seems like a lifetime, hers, not mine and even when she was young, like in elementary school, that poise under pressure told me a lot. Her mid to long-range is her go to
