Look for these ladies to start building up some momentum as we dive back into the live period in July. Be on the lookout for the rest of my coverage from this event over the coming week!
Danica Clark 2025 Friendswood High School (League City Sharks)
Danica is an unselfish guard who sees the floor at a very high level and is always willing to make the extra pass in any situation to set up a teammate for a better shot. She made accurate passes in the full court, finding her teammates for easy looks on the fast break. She is a great teammate with some of the looks that she passed up to find a teammate alone on the wing for an open midrange attempt, but I would like to see her be more aggressive, especially when attacking the rim. She made great dump-off passes to her teammates but at times she should have gone up strong instead. On the defensive end of the court, she uses her high basketball IQ to smartly trap the ball and use her athleticism to be a menace in the full court. She is used as the focal point of the attack on their full court press and she screams around from sideline to sideline chasing the ball and causing havoc on the court. She came up with a multitude of steals, angling her opponents into the waiting arms of a teammate or poking the ball free herself!
Emma Cantu 2025 Victoria East High School (Next Level)
Emma is a sharp shooting point guard who can get it done across all three levels of the floor, and create opportunities for her teammates. Her passes always seemed to find her teammates in rhythm allowing them to quickly get shots up from the perimeter. When she has the ball in her hands she is a confident playmaker who is a threat to score from all three levels of the court. She loves hunting for her midrange pull up at the top of the key after finishing at the rim a few times. She is a great shooter off the catch from the perimeter, especially when she gets a beat to set her feet. She loves operating out of the corners and the wings. On the defensive end of the court, she uses her energy and motor to come up with steals and deflections but also blocks both on the interior and on the perimeter.
Saleen Longoria 2025 Victoria East High School (Next Level)
Saleen is an impressive combo guard with the ability to affect the game on both ends of the court using her incredible court awareness on both ends of the court. On the offensive end of the court, she can play on or off the ball. She constantly moves without the ball and fills into space on the perimeter and in the midrange whenever she sees fit. She is a sniper when she gets an opportunity to set her feet and catch and shoot from the wings. She is a real weapon on the perimeter, using her quickness to get around her opponents and into the teeth of the defense. I was not surprised to see she also runs track for her school! With the ball in the hands she is a complete threat to score from beyond the arc, take her opponent off the bounce or create a shot opportunity with the attention she draws. She made incredibly aware cross court passes to find the open teammate on the back side of the play. Defensively, she has very active hands that always seem to be poking the ball free and allowing her team to run in transition.
Aubrey Mckenzie 2025 Magnolia High School (365 Elite Blue)
Aubray is an aggressive defender at the guard position who has a real knack for turning defense into offense through the way she plays the passing lanes and her intense on ball defense. I was very impressed by her on court awareness on the defensive end of the court, routinely jumping the passing lanes and baiting her opponents into lazy passes. Where I was blown away was her ability to play in the zone and actively defend the perimeter, even when she is responsible for covering two opponents. She uses her quickness and motor to dart back and forth and follow the ball, allowing her big to stay home and protect the rim. I loved her aggressiveness in the open court, routinely getting into the paint and forcing a second opponent to come react. Another big aspect I loved about her game was her positiveness and how she carried herself as a teammate, always the first one jumping off the bench to cheer on a teammate when she is not on the floor and keeping her teammates heads up when they miss free throws. I would like to see her work on her decision making with a live dribble and working to make sure each of her passes are done with a purpose.
Jazz Lee 2025 A&M Consolidated High School (College Station Elite)
Jazz is a scrappy on ball defender who is great at using her tenacity and aggressiveness to rip the ball from her opponents and run coast to coast for easy fast break opportunities. She is great at using her length to harass ball handlers and is good at seeing the space they are trying to attack and cutting it off. She uses the sideline as a help defender to angle her opponents back into the middle of the floor and uses her hands to poke the ball free. On the offensive end, she has a very confident handle that allows her to drive and draw a second defender and smartly pass out to an open teammate. She is great at splitting defenders in the open court and using her quickness to get up and down the court. She is a monster at turning defense into offense, be aware of her ability to go coast to coast!
