Grassroots Names to Know

The grassroots season is in full swing. There are plenty of prospects to be on the lookout for. Please reach out to me below so I can highlight future players. Here are some to watch. 2025 Emma Smith is a talented guard out of St. Andrew’s/G Nation. The 5-foot-9 does a nice job running the floor in transition for buckets. Her athleticism extends to the halfcourt where she can put the ball on the floor and attack the basket. Smith has a strong handle in either instance. She will also square up for an effective 3-point shot. Smith has the potential to be one of the area’s best sophomores. 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="248695" first="Teagan" last="Wakefield"] is a versatile wing/guard prospect. The 5-foot-8 Wakefield has an effective mid-range and 3-point shot. Her ability to attack the baseline and finish at a high rate is one of her strengths. Wakefield is also a solid defender with ability to guard multiple positions. She should be playing up with 17U G Nation in July. 2023 Aryana Shelby is a tough guard when attacking the basket. The 5-foot-8 wing/prospect will take on contact and finish at the rim. She will also rebound in the paint and score off putbacks. I think her mid-range and outside shot continues to improve. Shelby is also a lockdown on/off ball defender. Her pressure often leads to points off turnovers. I don’t see her backing down or letting up throughout the length of a game. 2024 Tamara Elliot is now playing with the Miami Suns. The 5-foot-6 prospect plays with excellent court awareness in the halfcourt or transition. Elliot’s ability to distribute and manage an offensive set is strong. Essentially, she plays with a high IQ and limits mistakes. Elliot is also an active defender. She had over three steals per game last season at Western. Elliot also averaged nine points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
