Chapman Basketball Academy defeated Wisconsin Playground Club 68-61 in the championship game Sunday to win the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit Legacy Region Final at Wayzata High School in the Twin Cities. Wisconsin Blizzard Hawley took third place with an impressive win over West Central United of Minnesota. What everyone was buzzing about when it was all said and done was the long-bomb shooting prowess of Chapman guard [player_tooltip player_id="329571" first="Gracie" last="McNabb"]. Fitting then that Miss McNabb should top the list of our 17U All-Tournament Team.

10 x 3 = 30. What more do you need to know? That’s right, McNabb (top photo) made 10 threes for Chapman in the championship game. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10! The 5’7 guard from Grafton was on fire from start to finish. She buried shots from the corner, hit pull-up threes on the run and had the opponent scrambling for a defensive strategy that might at least slow her down. After a quiet winter in high school competition, McNabb has lit it up this summer with Chapman and PGH Circuit opponents are now well aware that when Gracie’s got it going it’s likely to be a challenging hour.

The 5’9 guard from the Milwaukee Academy of Science is ranked #29 among Wisconsin’s incoming seniors and it’s not difficult to see why. She is very crafty, with plenty of strength and a ton of finesse. She’s smooth and subtle and can do good things in small spaces. She has great natural instincts and knows where the ball needs to go. She can get downhill in a hurry and has nice touch around the rim. She also controls tempo, plays the game in a creative way, and when you need a bucket with the game on the line chances are Ellis will deliver.

Our introduction to Beautiful’s rather prodigious box of tools came at this same event one year ago when she wowed us with her athleticism, skill and natural feel for the game. She has, of course, been turning heads ever since and she did it again this weekend. Ranked in Wisconsin’s Top 20 juniors, the Milwaukee Academy of Science guard is long and thin but much stronger than she looks. She’s quick and fast and those attributes make her very dangerous on the perimeter where any pass or weak dribble is fair game for a tip or steal. She can also handle the basketball and knows how to out-maneuver opponents in any number of ways to reach her intended destination.

The 6’2 junior from Dominican High School in the Milwaukee area played a key role in Chapman’s championship victory. She owns the paint at both ends of the floor, gets good position on her opponent, and comes down with more than her quota of boards. Alicia has great skills for a player of her size. Her passing is particularly impressive, from the long outlet on the run to the precision feed in the front court, she’s got a knack for finding an open teammate in the right place at the right time. She also knows how to finish around the rim. Alicia is currently ranked #91 in Wisconsin’s Class of 2023.

When players return from a long-term knee injury you’re never really sure how they’ll be. Some get right back up to speed, others struggle to find their game. And then there’s Mya, who has looked better than ever this spring on the PGH Circuit. The 5’7 guard from Perham is one of Minnesota’s very best shooters. She can bury it consistently from NBA range. Whether she’s deep in the corner, up top by the logo, or on the run, Morris can launch the moonball with precision. Mya is also well-versed in how to run an offense with poise and good timing. Her chemistry with post [player_tooltip player_id="178271" first="Willow" last="Thiel"] is a thing of beauty. Look for Morris’ stock to keep on rising.
<strong>SECOND TEAM</strong>

The 5’11 sophomore from Perham dominated the inside once again going up against opponents of all shapes and sizes. Willow, who plays one year up in AAU, is ranked #44 in Minnesota’s Class of 2024.

The 5’9 guard from Kimberly is rated #10 in Wisconsin’s Class of 2023 and she showed why once again this weekend. She’s strong and physical and plays the game with a high IQ.
<strong>Anna Rynkiewich – guard, Minnesota Diamond Elite</strong>
The 5’9 junior from St. Paul Central was a revelation this weekend. She’s got length, athleticism, speed in the open court and some savvy to her offensive game. This is a late bloomer to watch.

There was no shortage of great shooters at the Legacy Region Championships including the 5’7 junior from New Holstein. The guard is a gifted scorer rated among Wisconsin’s Top 50 juniors.

The 6’0 power forward from St. Paul Como Park has had a breakout spring on the PGH Circuit after earning accolades at Minnesota’s high school state tournament. She’s a rebounding machine who knows how to finish.
