Western High School has been one of the up and coming teams in Broward County. Led by Taja Stephens, Western has been one of the top teams in one of the toughest counties in Florida for girls basketball. With Taja graduating, Western is looking for several of their younger girls to step up and be consistent performers for Western in the 2022-23 High School season. Here are five Western High School players to know.
Kimora Lee Kimora Lee 5'4" | PG Western | 2023 State FL 5’5 Guard – Class of 2023
Kimora ended the back end of the 2021-22 season on a strong note, getting back to 100% health in the second half of the season after coming back from an injury that caused her to miss significant time in her Sophomore year. Heading into her Senior year, Western is looking for her to be their Senior leader and showcase her abilities. One of her strongest attributes is being a lock down on-ball defender. Offensively she has the skill set to consistently score in double digits. She has great range on her 3-point shot, can score off the dribble, and goes strong to the rim drawing fouls. She has excellent court vision and excels in finding her teammates and delivering the pass in tight windows for scoring opportunities.
Keylee Allen 5’9 Wing – Class of 2024
Don’t sleep on Allen, she is deceptively athletic, often doing things on the court that will leave you with your jaw wide open, often making plays that make the crowd ohh and ahh! She is a multi-sport athletic that was a named first team all-county at the safety position in flag football two years in a row. Head Coach Brandi Taylor calls her the “ultimate coach’s player,” complimenting her on being a worker, who gives maximum effort, great teammate and someone who enjoys the weight room. Allen is the player who often does all the intangible things and things the often go unnoticed but contribute to the team’s success. She has an uncanny way of moving without the ball and finding the gaps in the defense to get an easy basket. She excels at playing up tempo and in transition; rim running to get an easy layup. She can defend on ball in the permitter, in the paint, and her length and experience in flag football allows her to excel in playing in space by getting deflections and steals.
Nandi Ramessar 5’8 Wing – Class of 2024
Ramessar was one of last season’s unsung heroes who stats do not necessarily reflect the impact that she made on the court. Also a multi-sport athlete that excels in flag football, Ramessar is very athletic who covers a lot of space due to her combination of wingspan and speed. She takes pride in getting after it on the defensive end, playing with active hands, recording a number of deflections and blocks. She is a strong rebounder from the perimeter position, using her athleticism and good timing to get her hands on the ball. Her speed, athleticism, and long stride allow her to get to the basket with ease. She excels at playing up tempo and in transition on both ends of the floor and is a great decision maker from the wing by making passes in a tight window to get her teammates to the basket. Playing travel with G Nation this July.
Tamara Elliott Tamara Elliott 5'6" | PG Western | 2024 State FL 5’6 Point Guard – Class of 2024
Elliott has excellent court vision, is a true floor general with a high basketball IQ and is an unselfish decision maker that creates scoring opportunities for her teammates. She excels in playing up tempo and in transition and can score on all three levels. Her crafty, change of pace, and quick first step allows her to go hard and finish at the rim. Tamara plays with a chip on her shoulder and embraces challenges. She wants to guard the best opposing player, regardless of position. She is tough in the paint in rebounding and her vertical jump enables her to out jump girls taller than her. Playing travel with Miami Suns Team Fowles this July.
Riley Stoker Riley Stoker 6'0" | PG Somerset Prep North Lauderdale | 2025 State FL 6’0 Wing – Class of 2025
Stoker is a tall guard with a wide wingspan who covers a lot of area that we have written about several times this past high school season as a stock riser in the class of 2025. She uses her length to contest and deflect shots and passes while also displaying her 3-point range knocking it down at a high percentage from deep! She has a high basketball IQ and does a great job moving without the ball. With the ball in her hands, she has good court vision, excelling at finding her teammates in transition and leading them towards the hoop for easy layups. Just completing her freshman season, she is mature for a young player who plays poised and calm in critical situations. She is a great decision maker with tremendous ceiling with her best basketball still ahead of her. Playing travel with GT Queens this July.
