There are some names that you already know, but this ranking have some new names in the top 20.
There is multi-sport player; Number 9 Ghanaye Moss Ghanaye Moss 5'10" | SF Hueytown | 2023 State AL aka Sugamomma from Hueytown. She made a huge jump in the rankings, and is definitely one of the top (and most athletic) players to watch. Ghanaye is one of the best rebounders in the state, and her vertical is huge, looking for her to dunk before she finishes her high school career. Ghanaye’s strength is on the glass, rising above everyone getting those rebounds whether on the defensive side and starting the fast break or the offensive side with a gentle touch on that put-back.
The southern regional of the state also have several seniors, that are making noise and pay special attention to these two:
Lindsey Cox Lindsey Cox 5'6" | PG McGill-Toolen | 2023 State AL of McGill-Toolen at number 13. I saw her play in a tournament at Samford University and I was very impressed. She is scrappy on both sides of the ball. Lindsey has a pure shot, scores in bunches and is quiet while doing it. Lindsay is very active on the defensive side of the ball; reading passing lanes and boxing out to get that edge for those rebounds. Look for McGill-Toolen to make a run in this upcoming season.
Then there is Kiara Howard Kiara Howard 5'3" | PG Vigor | 2023 State AL of Vigor. Kiara help lead her team to a final four appearance last season, and talking about a scorer; had 31 points in their semi-final game, which included five 3-pointers. She is also a good defender, fighting for all loose balls and looking to disrupt her opponents offense as much as possible.
Last but not at all least is Number 11 Cali Smallwood Cali Smallwood 5'8" | SG Susan Moore | 2023 State AL from Susan Moore, the daughter of Head Coach Natasha Smallwood; this program making it all the way to the state championship game. She has great shooting form, will make you pay if you don’t put a hand up. Cali is also a coach on the floor, looking for that offensive and defensive advantages; getting her teammates involved all through the game.
Good luck to all of the ladies in their upcoming final high school season. We will be watching.
