Last year the Spartans finished 7-17 overall and 6-14 in the EDC coming up short in the EDC Tournament to Fargo Shanley 44-39. Let’s take a look at some of the key players that will be taking the court for Fargo North.
Arden Faulkner Arden Faulkner 5'10" | SG Fargo North | 2023 State ND 5’9 Senior Guard had quite a year last year as a Junior, and you can bet she will be having an even better year in 22-23′. Faulkner was 10th in scoring in the EDC with 324pts/13.5ppg, shot 37% from the field, and is equally deadly from the 3-point range shooting 29%. Faulkner is all around a gifted player and contributes all around the court offensively and defensively. She is shifty, can shoot and has all the abilities to play at the next level, she will be a vital part of Fargo North’s success this year.
Grace Thiel Grace Thiel 5'4" | PG Fargo North | 2025 State ND 5’4 G is also returning for her Sophomore year. Last year as a Freshman she was another standout for Fargo North. Thiel put up 230pts/10ppg and shot 30% from the field. She has many good qualities to her game from shooting, ball handling, and seeing the court on both sides of the game. She will be a big part of their offense and defense alike. She is young, but she is experienced and has a hunger to win. Grace will only continue to get better, she is another player we all need to keep an eye on in the years to come.
Sophomore Olivia Hammes Olivia Hammes 5'7" | CG Fargo North | 2025 State ND a 5’7 G will see some good court time just like last year, but she can expect to have a even bigger role this coming year. As a Freshman Hammes helped the Spartans by putting up 121pts/5ppg shot 36% from the field and 30% from the 3-point range. She has plenty of good tools in her bag, and this year we can expect her to add quite a bit more numbers to the stat sheet. Hammes is a gifted guard with good size to her, and will be a big contributor offensively and defensively alike. Another younger player that will progressively get better over time, and take on a bigger leader role.
Fargo South: The Bruins finished last year 7-15 overall and 6-14 in the EDC, this coming year they are returning 2 Seniors, and 4 Juniors who all have had good court time and are experienced. With the loss of Adie Wagner, and Brynn Nelson there is no doubt some big shoes to fill, but the drive and will to do that is there.
Teigan Malo Teigan Malo 6'0" | C Fargo South | 2024 State ND a 5’10 Junior is all around a very gifted player who had a solid year last year, and is just waiting to really leave her mark at Fargo South. As a Sophomore she helped the Bruin’s with 258pts/11.7 ppg (17th in EDC) an impressive 229 rebounds/10.4rpg and shot 58% from the floor (#2 EDC). Malo is flat out a walking double-double waiting to happen which is well deserved. She puts a ton of time into perfecting her game, and is a handworker on the court. This coming year she will play a big role on both ends, and also as a team leader. She is a gifted player in the post and knows how to control the game around the block. She could really shake things up in the EDC this year with huge numbers Offensively and Defensively, another very skilled player we need to be aware of.
Grace Hoselton will be coming back for her Senior year. The 5’4 G will be a big part of the offense for Fargo South and we can expect her to run the offense. She comes in as an experienced player that knows how to score, and find an open teammate. Last year she put up 76points and added a solid 61 assists. She has good speed, and is a quality passer who is gifted at finding an open teammate to score. I think it’s fair to say she will be looking for Malo in the post a few times this year, and will be one of the leading assisters in the EDC.
Grand Forks Central: The Knights are coming into 22-23′ with an experienced squad who is looking to knock off some teams this year. Last year wasn’t quite the year they wanted, but there is no doubt they are eager to change that.
Sophomore standout 5’8 Guard Lauren Reardon Lauren Reardon 5'10" | SG Grand Forks Central | 2025 State ND will be a bigtime playmaker and key figure on the court for the Knights. Last year she respectively had 326pts/15.5ppg (5th in EDC), 127rebounds/6rpg and shot 35% from the field and 29% from the 3-point land. Reardon has a ton of refined skills in her arsenal and knows how to use them. She is all around a very gifted athletic player who impacts the game on both sides. She will be a team leader for the Knights this year, and the years following. Another impressive player from ND that is on the College radar for all the right reasons.
Morgan Hallgren a Senior 5’5 G will also be an impactful player contributing to the Knights. As a Junior she added 179pts/8ppg, shot 34% from the field and had an impressive 51 steals. Defensively she is the player you want on the court to put pressure on the ball, she moves good side to side and can get up and down the court well with her speed. Offensively she is a proven shooter and isn’t afraid to take the open shot from 10-15′ or from behind the arc. Don’t leave her open, she’ll knock um’ down.
Senior Kiara Holweger a 5’9 G/F will be a impactful player for the Knights. Last year she put up 116 points/5.3ppg and shot 35% from the field. She’s has a good size frame to her height and has decent footwork to add. Last year she had 77 rebounds and we can expect that number to climb this year as she plays more around the rim.
