Jenna Stephens Jenna Stephens 6'0" | C Stanton | 2023 State IA
The 6-foot forward led the Viqueens in scoring and played a role in her team advancing to the 1A state title game. Last season, Stephens averaged over 16 points and nearly eight rebounds per game and was consistent all season long. She excelled around the basket, where she either scored or used the threat of her scoring to draw fouls and get to the free-throw line, where she shot 72%. Last season, the Viqueens won 24 games before ultimately dropping the state title game. Expect another competitive season.
Emily Williams Emily Williams 5'8" | SF East Mills | 2023 State IA
The 5-foot-8 wing does most of her damage on the interior. She only took 13 3-pointers last season and attempted nearly 300 shots inside the 3-point line to paint the picture of what her shit chart would show. She got to the free throw line an unbelievable 171 times last season which is a ridiculous amount of free-throw attempts. Williams’ ability to get to the line over seven times per game is game-changing. That is an opportunity for seven free points every game, and the possibility of accumulating fouls on an opposing player that is significant to whatever they do is incredible.
Tegan Ewalt
The 5-foot-9 multi-sport athlete from Fremont-Mills was the third leading scorer in the conference last season with over 12 per game. The Knight scored with volume in her junior season from all over the floor and helped her team’s offense run smoothly. This season Ewalt will hopefully add more efficiency to her game and help the Knights win more games. I would not be surprised to see the Knights surprise a few teams next season.
The rising junior ended her sophomore season as the No. 4 player in assists in the Corner Conference with three per game. She is a guard who doesn’t waste any movement and keeps the ball moving when she gets the ball in her hands. She may not shoot the ball much, but she makes things happen. Weldon has the excellent court vision and leads her teammates with her passes, and all they have to do is catch the ball and lay it up. I love guards like her who make passes the casual viewer may not see.
