Continue ReadingThis class had quite a few players, that during the last half of school ball and summer decided it is now my time. Below are six young ladies that are making their first appearance in the top ten of the Class of 2024 rankings.
This is a player with a lot of talents and it showed as she poured her all into her team’s two appearances in the 2022 State Finals’ semi-finals and state championship games. XaiOnna has a high offensive awareness and a tremendous feel for the game. She plays at a level that allows her to attach more defenses and create for herself. Then on the defensive side of the ball she creates a lot of deflections and works hard to let her opponent feel her presence. Look for this squad to have a good post season run again.
Zamyra is a fluid athlete who plays with high energy. She creates havoc with her quickness and desire to score against most opponent. Zamyra moves well without the ball to get herself open, score or facilitate to the teammate that may be open. She digs in on defense and is very aggressive when applying pressure defense. Her offensive IQ is extremely high, can run any offensive sets, score or distribute in the process.
Serena is another high energy guard in this 2024 Class, she’s like the energizer bunny. She’s that floor general for the Anniston Lady Bulldogs and has been a part of this championship program since her younger days, being groomed for her current position. Serena also known as “CC” is a threat on the offense side of the ball; pushing the ball down the floor, shooting and/or getting the ball to her open teammate.
A two sport athlete, Ava had a impressive sophomore season at Saint James High School in Montgomery; averaging 18.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and being very instrumental in leading her team to the 4A State Championship game. She continued to improve her game this summer, playing a vigorous national schedule with her travel team. With her size, she is deadly from the perimeter, runs the floor well, and can also finish at the basket. Ava is also a good defender, with her length it helps her getting into the passing lanes for a lot of steals. Look for Saint James to be back at the Final Four again.
I have seen Karma play since 6th grade, and she has always been a strong and athletic guard in a small frame but powerful body. She will always be among the fastest on the court, and do not be surprise of her strength and athleticism. Karma facilitates at a high level, isn’t afraid to attack the defense and can create for herself. Karma is not afraid to mix it up on defense and will battle with anyone on the court. At her high school, Pelham; she’s often called a “fire-plug”, because she bring energy to the team when she is on the court.
Zyriah a transfer to Hazel Green from Buckhorn, had to sit out this past year, but she made up for it during travel season. She picked up some D1 offers during her first weekend out in the live period. Standing at 6-1, very active with or without the ball, great mid-range shot and just dominates on the boards. Most games I saw her play, she just dominates on both ends of the floor. Look for her to be a big part of Hazel Green’s continued quest for a 6th straight state title.
These are just a few of the players in this class that are continuing to work hard. Class of 2024 is one of the special classes in this state.
