Continue ReadingI always get a kick out of seeing the up-and-coming players, fortunately, in Texas, I have watched plenty in Texas who showed potential at an early age over the years, many I have even attached #D1Lock on before their first high school games, well some even before middle school and I love pointing that out because some get confused when they see NATIONAL media copying what I already said but that’s another story.
I also enjoy seeing talent from outside of Texas, this falls into the #TalentIsEverywhere if you know what you’re looking at, and with the countless know-it-alls popping up, I just smile and observe because one thing I do know is talent and more importantly, where the bar was set so catching some players from outside of Texas was equally important so I’ll start with those
Shanna Simien-Louisiana
Simien was one of the hands-down standouts at the event and what immediately captured my attention was her fierceness, as well as how she went after everything off the rim, outrebounding taller players and scoring on the inside, many times after contact with putbacks. She also did a good job attacking the basket and finishing vigorously, after the lick, and when she dropped the FLOATA, that JUST DID IT for me. Her release is quick on her jumper, she understands how to create her shot and showed she could knock it down
Jazmin Daing-Minnesota
Daing is long and athletic, if you follow me and pay attention, you know I call that “the base” because it’s one of the profiles I use when evaluations, more importantly, many college coaches also use it and they offer a chance to play at the next level. So what are her intangibles to go along with that, well she has good timing to block, alter or deflect shots, she rebounds on both ends of the court, showed she could score around the basket and she runs the floor, on both ends. She also created her shot to score both off the dribble and with the pull-up jumper
Presley Watkins-Minnesota
Watkins is also long and athletic and her “on the ball” defense stood out, so did her doing things instinctively which is always a plus. She picked up steals using her quick hands, and she also understood how to force players into the trap but when played the passing lane, I just smiled, especially since she handled the ball after and either attacked in the open court or saw the floor and passed for assist opportunities. Her pull-up jumper was nice, she elevated over the defender and dropped it with a hand in her face and she also did a good job attacking the basket using a deceptive first step
I’ll be dropping even more from the event, fasten your seatbelts because some more heavy hitters are coming
